Successful teddy bear toss night sees Gaels fall 1-0 to McGill

KINGSTON, Ont. (November 23, 2019) – The Queen's Gaels (6-9-0) fell to McGill (8-5-1) 1-0 on Saturday night at the Memorial Centre. Despite the loss the Gaels executed a successful Teddy Bear toss theme with fans throwing Bears onto the ice in the third period.

TEDDY BEAR TOSS
Fans purchased and donated Teddy Bears in the first men's hockey Teddy Bear toss night. Mid-way through the first period fans tossed their bears onto the ice and members of the novice rep Gananoque Islanders cleaned up the bears which will be donated to the University Hospitals Kingston Foundation along with all funds raised for the initiative. Over 300 bears were collected to be donated along with $1,000 collected in donations.

GAME FLOW
On teddy bear night the Gaels hosted their rivals McGill at the Memorial Centre.

Throughout the opening period and one power play opportunity for the Gaels, no stuffed animals had flown yet as both teams would remain without a goal after 20 minutes.

The second period mirrored the first with zero goals and going into the final period, Queen's was looking for their first goal of the night and their seventh win of the season. The two goaltenders were the story through 40 minutes with Luke Richardson of the Gaels stopping all 21 shots faced thus far and Louis-Philip Guindon halting the 22 that Queen's fired at him.

Early in the third, McGill was able to break the deadlock as Jasmin Boutet scored his second goal of the season to give McGill a 1-0 advantage.

At the nine minute mark, the fans got the chance to toss their stuffed friends over the glass; unfortunately the Gaels were still down one hunting for their first goal of the night.

Queen's would ultimately fall to McGill 1-0 and split their weekend with a win and a loss over their two rivals RMC and McGill.
