Gaels start strong, lose in shootout in Ottawa Wednesday night

OTTAWA  (November 27th, 2019) – The Queen's Gaels (6-9-1) couldn't halt the Ottawa Gee-Gees (9-4-1) comeback as they fell 3-2 in a shootout.
 
GAME FLOW
The Gaels traveled to Ottawa to take on the Gee-Gees at the Minto Sportsplex Wednesday night in their final road game of 2019. Following a loss in Kingston, Queen's looked to spark some momentum before the month long break in December.

The Gaels would start off strong with Jared Bethune scoring first off a rebound giving the Gaels a 1-0 lead over Ottawa. Mason Kohn would follow with one of his own giving Queen's a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes.  

During the second, Ottawa would cut the Gaels lead down to one with Queen's leading by a goal heading into the final 20 minutes. 

On an Ottawa power play 1:20 into the third, the Gee-Gees would tie things up 2-2. With just under nine minutes remaining, the Gaels would earn a power play chance to take the lead late however were unable to capitalize.
After 60 minutes, both teams were tied 2-2 forcing overtime.

Both teams would be shutout during the seven-minute overtime period with the game to be decided in a shootout.

Matthew Hotchkiss would be the Gaels first shooter missing the net followed by an Ottawa miss. Mason Kohn would follow Hotchkiss and miss with Ottawa finding the back of the net after Kohn's miss.

The Gee-Gees would score the game's final goal in the shootout defeating the Gaels 3-2 in Ottawa.

BY THE NUMBERS
21 – Scored first in the opening period.
17 – Mason Kohn scored the Gaels second and final goal of the night.
32 – Richardson finished the night with 34 saves.

The Gaels look to close out their final game of 2019 with a win over the Laurentian Voyageurs November 30th Saturday at 7:30 pm in Kingston.
