Gaels win 91-88 in OT thriller

WINDSOR, Ont. (November 16, 2019) - The Queen's Gaels (4-4) defeated the Windsor Lancers (4-4) 91-88 in overtime to close out the weekend.  

GAME FLOW
The Lancers opened the game with Shakael Ryce sinking a three pointer. Harry Range followed this with a layup for his first two of 16 total points on the night. Midway through the first quarter the Gaels scored five unanswered points that allowed them to hang onto their lead and finish the quarter on top with 19-14. 

Landon Brickenden opened the second quarter with an unassisted jump shot, followed by Quinton Gray's first of two steals that turned into points for the Gaels. Windsor capitalized off turnovers made by Queen's and were able to close the gap. The Lancers tied the game up midway through the quarter as the Gaels struggled to score. Gray found the basket on a three-pointer to break the cold shooting streak for Queen's. Gaels were able to hang onto their lead at halftime as the Lancers trailed 43-42.

In both the third and fourth quarters, the Lancers and the Gaels found their offensive rhythm to keep the game close. With 15 ties and 17 lead changes throughout the evening, it was clear that both teams were going to fight until the last minutes of play to come out on top.

 In the final minutes of the fourth quarter the Lancers had an eight point lead over the Gaels. With back-to-back three-pointer shots from Gray and C.Syllas, Queen's was able to tie up the score at 79 to send the game to overtime. 


Overtime saw both teams trade baskets but it was Connor Keefe who gave the Gaels a late lead as the Gaels pulled out the victory 91-88 over Windsor.

Next Friday, November 22, the Gaels will go on to face the Toronto Varsity Blues at home in the ARC. Tip off is set for 8pm and the game can be streamed live on OUA.tv.
