Kingston, Ont. (November 11, 2019) - The Gaels men's and women's squash team competed this past weekend against St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY.

The Queen's men's and women's squash teams travelled to St. Lawrence University in Canton, NY to participate in an exhibition squash tournament this past weekend. The Gaels men came out on top 5-4 in both sets of matches. Standouts for Queen's were Willem Atack, Euan Hannigan and Michael Haffey who all won both of their matches.
In their first match up, the women's squash team scored a 4-4 tie with strong performances from Amelia Knapp, Marlow Benson, Heather McLachlan and Jenna Dhanani. The second match up resulted in a 5-3 win with rookie Amanda Goertz emerging victorious after a grueling five game match. Overall, the team's outing to Canton, NY resulted in a 9-7 win.
Last weekend, the Gaels faced off Glendon, Waterloo, Laurier and the University of Toronto at the first Jesters Crossover event of the season that was hosted at Queen's. The Gaels swept Glendon Griffins, Laurier Golden Hawks and longstanding rival U of T Varsity Blues 9-0. The last match up against Waterloo proved to be a more challenging one as the Gaels dropped one single match but won 6-1. The team's number no.1 seeded player, rookie Marlow Benson, cinched a win after an intense five games that had everyone on the edge of their seats. It was overall a fantastic weekend for squash from across Ontario and for the Queen's women's squash team.
In two weeks, the Gaels will travel to Ottawa where they will compete at the second sectional tournament of the season.
