Women's LacrosseÂ
The Queen's women's lacrosse team faced the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks and York Lions on Saturday at Alumni Field in Toronto.
The Gaels pressed forward for an early lead against Ontario Tech, however, the Gaels couldn't easily pull away. The Ridgebacks would score goals at the end of both the 1st and 2nd quarter to slow the Gaels momentum and stay close at half time. The Gaels, up 8-5 at the half, would turn it on in the 3rd quarter, scoring seven, to take a 15-6 lead. The Gaels held on to win the match 16-10. Offensive contributions from
Annie Lloyd registered three goals and two assists,
Emily Arkell scored three goals andÂ
Kiah Shanks and
Jordan Kummer both contributed two goals and an assist to help the Gaels collect the victory.
The second game of the day began with momentum for the Gaels and they would not look back. 11-0 at half and a 16-0 final, with contributions all over the field.
Jessica Lafave would take the shutout, while Kummer scored four goals,
Hailey Kokot (1G, 4A), Christina Holmes (3G),
Sarah Wood (2G, 1A),Â
Camryn Kelly (2G) and Brianna MacCheyne (1G, 2A) lead the Gaels to the win.
The Gaels will wrap up their regular season against Toronto and Trent next Saturday at York University in Toronto.Â
Fastpitch
The Queen's fastpitch team competed this past weekend in the OIWFAÂ playoffs following a first place finish in the East Division with a 10-6 record.Â
The Gaels loss 8-2 against the University of Toronto Varsity Blues in their opening game of the tournament. After falling to the consolidation bracket, the Gaels fell 10-2 to the Laurier Golden Hawks, a loss that ended their weekend.Â
