GAELS THIS WEEK

OUA PLAYOFFS
Men's Soccer
After a spectacular finish to the OUA regular season where the Gaels clinched a playoff spot with an 89th-minute strike from Braeden Levac over Laurentian, Queen's opens the playoffs as the fifth-seed in the OUA East and challenge Ontario Tech in the opening round.

The Gaels finished with a 5-7-2 record and meet the OUA East fourth-seeded Ridgebacks who finished 7-2-5 on Wednesday at 1 pm in Oshawa.

The two 401 rivals met just once on the season back on October 6 at Ontario Tech where the Ridgebacks were able to upend the Gaels 4-0 thanks to a hat-trick from Fadi Salback.

Queen's will look to enact their revenge and continue the late-season momentum that saw them win their final two matches and earn their first road victory.

Women's Soccer
The newly minted No.5 Gaels finished in second place in the OUA East with an undefeated regular season that saw them finish 12-0-2. Despite an identical record with the rival Ottawa Gee-Gees the Gaels enter playoffs second due to losing the goals for/against tie-break with Ottawa.

Queen's receives a bye from the opening round of playoffs and will meet the highest remaining seed after Wednesday night's action. The Wednesday matches feature #3 Nipissing vs #6 Ryerson and #4 Toronto vs #5 Ontario Tech. The Gaels will host their playoff match Sunday at 1 pm at Richardson Stadium. Admission is free for all.

The Tricolour will look to Christie Gray and Cecelia Way to pace the team offensively as they finished second and fifth in the OUA with 16 and 12 points respectively. Gray closed out her final seven games of the OUA season with seven goals as she enters the playoffs while Way also had four goals in her final five matches.

A win on Sunday would send the Gaels back to the OUA Final Four.

Men's Hockey
The Gaels are back at home at the Memorial Centre this weekend as they have a double bill taking on the Nipissing Lakers on both Friday and Saturday nights.

Queen's enters play this weekend with a 2-3-0 record while Nipissing has gotten off to a fast start at 4-0-1 on the year. The Gaels had been nationally ranked each week but have fallen out of the Top 10 for the first time this week.

It is a big weekend for Queen's as they will also honour the 2018-19 Queen's Cup champions with a special pre-game championship banner unveiling prior to puck drop on Saturday night.

Despite the 2-3-0 record, the Gaels have played just once at home where they had their best result a 5-0 shutout win over Concordia.

Queen's rookie goaltender Luke Richardson has had a strong start to the season as he sports a 1.83 GAA and 0.931 save percentage through five games this year.

For tickets to either game head to gogaelsgo.com/tickets or catch the action live on OUA.tv. Puck-drop is set for 7:30 pm each night at the Memorial Centre.

Rowing
The Queen's women's and men's rowing teams are off to St. Catharines, Ontario for the OUA rowing championships. After finding success at the head of the Trent the Gaels were at the Brock Invitational two weeks ago and saw more strong performances on the course that will host the OUA championship.

At Brock Queen's earned silver in the lightweight single thanks to Evan Notley and won bronze with Basil Jancso-Szabo and Andrew Hubbard in the pair, in the coxed four with Jancso-Szabo, Michael Bryenton, Graham Shearing, Hubbard and Khalil Daibes, and in the lightweight coxed four with Lucas Celia, Benjamin Ravenscroft, Michael Trolio, Adam Sunavsky and Megan Stellato.

For the Gaels women's team, Queen's captured first place in the lightweight double in a time of 07:19.4 and again in the double in a time of 07:24 from the duo of Danica Vangsgaard and Greta Chase.

The Gaels also earned silver in the pair from Paige Adams and Claire Ellison.

The Gaels will look to secure more medals and a strong team result this weekend after seeing the women finish second and men third last year and both teams claiming a total of 11 medals.

Women's Hockey
Coming off of a weekend home split where the Gaels ended with a 2-1 win over Ryerson after a 4-1 loss to Toronto, Queen's (1-0-1-0) will be on the road for the first time this season as they visit the Brock Badgers (1-0-1-0) on Friday and No.10 York Lions (1-0-1-0) on Saturday.

Brock will host the Gaels in their home opener after defeating Windsor and losing to Western on the road last weekend. York had the same matchups and also lost to Western but are coming off of a 3-0 shutout over Windsor. York will host Ontario Tech on Friday in their season opener before welcoming Queen's.
