Gaels host Concordia, Cape Breton and Brock in Tindall Invitational - Gaels claim Tindall Invitational Title

BOX SCORE KINGSTON, Ont. - The Queen's women's basketball team is hosting their annual Tindall Invitational tournament as they welcome the Brock Badgers, Cape Breton Capers and Concordia Stingers to Kingston.

Four different Gaels were able to hit double-digits with Michelle Istead leading the way with 13 points while adding six rebounds. Emma Weltz also stuffed the stat sheet scoring 10 points while picking up five rebounds, four steals and three assists. 

After finishing the first quarter with a one-point lead the Gaels came alive in the second scoring 22 points while holding Concordia to just eight. Another 22 in the third quarter compare dto just 15 for the Stingers gave Queen's a comfortable 22 point lead. They went on the close out the win 74-50.

The Gaels were defensively strong limiting Concordia to 26.9% shooting and holding them to an 0-18 mark from the three-point line.

Queen's will look to move to 2-0 when they challenge Cape Breton on Saturday at 4 pm.

Cape Breton 72, Queen's 76

The Gaels improved to 2-0 for the Tindall Invitational after taking down Cape Breton 76-72 on Saturday afternoon at the Queen's ARC.

The matchup boiled down to a pair of offensive stars on Cape Breton compared to a team effort and sharing of the offensive load for the Gaels.

The duo of Monique Calliste and MacKenzee Ryan combined for 51 of the Capers 72 points with Calliste finishing with a double-double on 30 points and 11 rebounds.

For the Gaels however it was a shared effort as Emma Ritcey, Laura Donovan, Julia Chadwich and Emma Weltz all had 10 or more points while four others had five or more points.

The Gaels held a 14 point lead at halftime before the Capers made a late charge. Ryan had 19 second half points to get the Capers in front in the fourth quarter.

Ritcey had the hot hand for the Tricolour and had 10 straight points in the last half of the final quarter to keep the Gaels in front and secure the win.

SUNDAY
Cape Breton 71, Concordia 66
Brock 56, Queen's 61

The Gaels improved to 3-0 at the Tindall Invitational with a 61-56 win over fellow OUA combatant the Brock Badgers on Sunday.

Emma Ritcey had another strong game for the Tricolour scoring 14 points while adding seven rebounds, three steals and a pair of blocks. Michelle Istead also had a solid performance with 12 points and eight rebounds and Megan Saftich came off the bench to score 11 points.

The Gaels came out strong with an eight point lead at the end of the opening quarter and a 12 point lead at half. Brock was able to cut the lead down to six in the final frame but a defensive effort from the Gaels held Brock to just nine points in the final frame to secure the win.

Queen's was the lone team to finish 3-0 in the tournament.
