GANANOQUE, Ont. (September 15, 2018) - The Queen's Gaels started their exhibition season on the right foot with a 6-0 victory over their cross-town rivals RMC at the annual Lou Jeffries Game.
LOU JEFFRIES
Lou Jeffries was a dedicated, community-driven volunteer for the town of Gananoque, Ontario. He was recognized by his love of hockey and his involvement in the Gananoque Minor Hockey Association (GMHA). Jeffries assisted the GMHA for more than 50 years until his death at the age of 75. He is also known for his contribution in bringing Junior B hockey to Gananoque in 1971. Over his lifetime, Jeffries worked in a number of different roles including Coach, General Manager, President and League Executive for the GMHA and Junior B Gananoque Islanders. Â
As a proud supporter of Queen's University hockey, Jeffries was always delighted when a player was able to improve upon their life by moving on to an academic institution or sporting team. Realizing that he played a small part in helping an athlete's dreams come true provided him with great satisfaction.
GAME FLOW
After a scoreless opening 20 minutes that saw Queen's outshoot RMC 20-6, the Gaels broke through for four goals in the second period to take a commanding 4-0 lead.
Goals came from Liam Dunda,
Alex Row,
Nevin Guy and
Duncan Campbell.
Luke Edwards and Owen Stout each tallied goals in the third period to bring the game to a 6-0 final. In net was rookie netminder Jack Flinn who picked up the shutout victory.

The Gaels are back in action on September 28 when they take on the Waterloo Warriors in the East vs West tournament in London, Ontario.
