KINGSTON, Ont. (September 1, 2018) – The Gaels women's soccer team began their 2018 regular season with a 4-2 win against the visiting Nipissing Lakers. The win marked the second consecutive year where the Gaels pulled out a 4-2 win against the Lakers during their opening weekend.

GAME FLOW
The Gaels had control from the early minutes on as they piled shots onto Lakers' goalkeeper Mykaela Volpe.

After continual pressure they broke through in the 25
th minute. Gaels'
Christie Gray fed a perfectly placed pass to
Jenny Wolever, however she missed the pass and the ball hit off the leg of Lakers' defender Kristen Farkas and into the net for an own goal.

From that moment on it was the
Jenny Wolever show. In the 32
nd minute she capitalized on a penalty kick and just a minute later she placed a beautiful shot into the top right corner. Just like that the Gaels had a commanding 3-0 lead.

The Lakers started the second half with some momentum of their own. First, in the 59
th minute Tori Bellar squeaked one by Gaels' goalkeeper
Anna Stephenson then she was beaten again by Andrea Young in the 66
th minute. Suddenly, the Gaels were on their heels while holdng on to a slim 3-2 lead.

However,
Jenny Wolever secured the Gaels win with her third goal of the game.

WOLEVER'S WAY
Prior to this afternoon, Wolever had two multi-goal games both of which came in the 2017 season. This marked the first time that Wolever had ever recorded a hat trick in her career. She now has four career goals against Nipissing in just three games.

12 – The Gaels had 12 shots on goal compared to only 3 for the Lakers.
2 - Wolever now sits just two goals behind Stephanie Roberts (McMaster) for the OUA goal-scoring lead. However, Roberts has already completed four games on the schedule so far.

FINAL SAY

Dave McDowell. "Good introduction, good three points, we'll take it and look to get better tomorrow."
