No. 8 Gaels fall 3-2 in the shootout to Golden Hawks, finish first in OUA ahead of playoffs

Waterloo, Ont. (February 10, 2018) – The No. 8 Queen's Gaels (14-3-3-4) dropped a 3-2 shootout decision to the Laurier Golden Hawks (2-4-14-3) on Saturday night. Kaitlin Sexton scored the only goal in the shootout for the Golden Hawks to send the Gaels home with the loss. Despite the loss, the Gaels still finish the season in first place in the OUA.

GAME FLOW
Hailey Wilson (Pickering, Ont.) got the game started off on the right foot for the Gaels when she notched her ninth goal of the season from Katrina Manoukarakis (Scarborough, Ont.) and Clare McKellar (London, Ont.) at 12:56. The Gaels would head into the first intermission leading 1-0.

Emily Visser tied the game up for the Golden Hawks early in the second period when she beat Gaels netminder Stephanie Pascal (Sudbury, Ont.) just a minute in. Emily Woodhouse gave Laurier their first lead at 4:04 to make the score 2-1. Addi Halladay (North Augusta, Ont.) answered back for the Gaels at 6:35 when she scored her ninth of the season, as the two teams would enter the third period tied 2-2.

The third period was an even affair, with Queen's holding a slight lead in shots, but no team was able to score the game deciding goal. Overtime would solve nothing on this night, as the game needed a shootout to decide the outcome.

Sexton was able to beat Pascal in the shootout to win the game for the Golden Hawks.

Hannah Miller picked up the win in net for the Golden Hawks, making 22 saves while Pascal took the loss for Queen's.
