Men's hockey struggles against No.5 Ottawa

OTTAWA, Ont. (November 3, 2018) – In a battle of two nationally ranked OUA teams, the No.6 Queen's Gaels (6-3-0) fell 4-2 to No.5 Ottawa Gee-Gees (7-0-1) on the road.

Heading into Saturday's matchup, the two teams were the highest ranked teams in the OUA. However, with the Gee-Gees win they create a three point cushion in front of the Gaels.

GAME FLOW
The only scoring opportunity of the opening period came near the midway point as Ottawa's Marc Beckstead had a chance alone in front of the net and buried the puck. His goal gave the Gee-Gees a 1-0 lead heading into the first intermission.

Matthew Dunlop got the Gee-Gees ahead in the second period and suddenly the Gaels found themselves in a 2-0 hole.

However, they would get some momentum on their side as Mason Kohn scored just before the second intermission to give the Gaels some confidence as they headed back into their locker room.

Midway through the third period Henry Thompson scored his second goal as a Gael, extending his point streak to four games. Just like that the Gaels tied the game at 2-2.

It wouldn't take long for the Gee-Gees to regain the lead as JF Plante gave Ottawa a lead they would not surrender.

CHASING QUEEN'S HISTORY
Spencer Abraham had two assists over the weekend.

His career points total is now at 107, which is now just 9 points behind Aaron Fransen's 116 points for the Gaels all-time points record.

UP NEXT
The Gaels return to the Memorial Centre for the first time in two weekends as they host a back-to-back against the UQTR Patriotes (6-3-0). The Patriotes are red hot as they've won their last three games.

Games are set for Friday and Saturday at 7:30pm. You can get tickets for both games at gogaelsgo.com/tickets or you can watch the action live on OUA.tv.
