Varsity Club Weekend Recap - Gaels take home 5 gold, 17 total medals at deBray Divisional Championships

The men's and women's swimming teams competed at the OUA deBray Division Champions this past weekend. The competition was held from November 24-25 and was hosted by Laurentian University at the Sudbury Laurentian Swim Club. The Gaels earned five gold medals, three silvers, and nine bronze to finish third overall in the team standings.
 
Men's Results
The men's team finished third overall in the men's standings with 581 points. Only Laurentian (973.50) and Guelph (670) finished higher as the Gaels grabbed the final spot on the podium.
 
Steven Lee who picked up three gold medals, as well as a silver and bronze led the team. His three gold medals came in individual races beginning with the 50-metre breaststroke (28.71), 100-metre breaststroke (1:02.69) and the 200-metre breaststroke (2:20.12). His silver and bronze came in the 4 x 50-metre medley and 4 x 50-metre freestyle relays.
 
The other gold medal on the men's side went to Victor Uemura who won the 200-metre medley with a time of 2:09.28.

Bronze – 4 x 100-metre freestyle (3:36.76): Jared Theriault, Steven Law, Matt McGill, Eric Rendall
 
Women's Results
The top performer on the women's side was Ally Lecky who came away with an individual gold, silver and bronze medal while helping the Gaels' women's and overall team finish third in the standings.
 
Lecky's gold medal came on Saturday, in the 50-metre freestyle (27.25) where she edged out a win by 0.20 seconds. That same day, Lecky posted the fastest overall lap (26.30) in the women's 4 x 50-metre freestyle relay where they earned a bronze medal. On Sunday, her time of 29.58 was enough to earn a silver medal in the 50-metre butterfly.

SQUASH
Men's
The Queen's men's squash team participated in the second Jesters east sectional this past weekend. The tournament was hosted by the University of Ottawa at the Ottawa Athletic Club.
 
Queen's prevailed against Ottawa 7-0, against McGill 6-1 and against Carleton 5-2.
 
Standouts for Queen's were Alex Collins, Chris Howard and Alex Dorbyk who won all three of the matches they played.
 
There is now a break in the season until the next Jesters crossover in January.

Women's
The Queen's Woman's Squash team travelled to Ottawa on Sunday to compete in the 3rd Jesters tournament of the season. The Gaels were hosted by Ottawa U for East Sectional #2 at the Ottawa Athletic Club. The women played 3 matches during the day and were undefeated in all three fixtures, beating Ottawa U and McGill 7-0. Carleton entered an exhibition team made up of local masters women including yours truly. The Queen's women held strong, beating the wise and crafty shot makers 5-3. 

Ali Richmond, who has often represented Queen's in the number 1 position during the past 4 years, will be switching from player to coach for the second half of the season. We welcome Ali to our coaching staff and look forward to her expertise. 

The season continues next term with our final Jesters tournament in Toronto, followed by OUA's and Canadian Individuals in February. 
 
SAILING
With winter approaching, the Gaels' sailing season has come to an end.
