This Winter wraps up another successful season for Queen's Sailing. This year, our team took on 21 new Gaels to our growing team and we also welcomed a new coach to our team, Jon Ladha, who's focus was to coach our sailor's to success in both the Canadian Intercollegiate Sailing Association (CICSA), North American (ICSA), and the Mid Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association (MAISA).
Some highlights for us this year included hosting and winning the CANAM Cup for the fourth consecutive year, winning the Cazenovia Fall Open in Syracuse, New York in both Flying Juniors and 420's, and winning the McGill and McMaster Invitational Regattas. Queen's also qualified to attend the WAR Memorial Regatta where we finished 15
th overall. At the Team Racing National Championship, the Gaels were almost undefeated with their only loss being to McGill. The single-handed Laser team members made Queen's proud with great results at the 2018 Laser North Fall Qualifiers and with multiple members landing in the top 10 at Fall Cork. The keelboat team also had some great regattas throughout the season including placing fifth at Keelboat Nationals.Â
This year, we are saying good-bye to many of the Queen's Sailing Executive Members who will be graduating. This includes our current Co-President's Zac Baum and
Adrienne Gaudreault, Keelboat Captain, Rachel Harris, Vice President (Regatta's),
Christina Black, Vice President (Rec-Sail),
Natalie Tanczak, and Vice President (Operations),
Reid Goldman. We are sad to have all are graduates leaving us and wish them the best of luck in the upcoming years.
The Queen's Sailing Team would like to thank the Kingston Yacht Club and its many members who support us during our season and throughout the year. Thank you to all our supporters who help us sail fast. We're looking forward to spring already and we'll see everyone back on the water next year.
