Goals from Dennis and Manoukarakis not enough as Gaels fall to Waterloo

WATERLOO, Ont. (November 24, 2018) – The No.10 Queen's Gaels (8-5-0-0) wrapped up the first half of their regular season with a 5-2 road loss against the Waterloo Warriors (6-2-1-1). After standing tall last night defensively, the Gaels struggled to stop the surging Warriors offence.

GAME FLOW
Midway through the opening period the Gaels found the back of the net. On the powerplay, Addi Halladay put a shot on net and the rebound went right to Kaylie Dennis who tapped in the rebound for her third goal of the season.

Then minutes later, the Gaels found themselves on another powerplay opportunity. Kaylie Dennis almost scored her second of the period if it weren't for a stretched-out save by Warriors' goaltender Amanda Smith.

However, the Gaels would quickly find the net shortly after as Manoukarakis entered the zone and ripped a wrist shot past Smith for her team-leading 6th goal of the year.

After the first period, the Gaels had a 19-6 advantage in the shot department showing no signs of offensive struggles that were seen yesterday against Laurier.

The second was a completely different story for the Gaels, as they allowed the Warriors to get back into the game.

Waterloo responded early in the second as Selena Dirven sent a slap shot from the point towards the net. Alison Hanson got a stick on it and redirected it past Stephanie Pascal to cut the Gaels lead to 2-1.

Then, Waterloo's Samantha Burbridge converted on the powerplay to tie the game 2-2.

In the third, the Warriors scored their third unanswered goal as Jessie Fennell put a wrister on net from the point. The puck found its way through the screen and into the net for the game-winning goal.

The Warriors would tack on another pair of gaols in the closing minutes to bring the final score to 5-2.

MUST-SEE MOMENT
Katrina Manoukarakis fires home the wrister to add to the Gaels' early lead.
