KINGSTON, Ont. (January 5, 2019) - The Queen's Gaels (8-6-0-0) fell 1-0 to the No.10 Guelph Gryphons (9-2-1-1) in a battle of two of the top defensive teams in the OUA.

test q  ICE WOLVES DAY
It was Kingston Ice Wolves day at the Memorial Centre as Greater Kingston Girls Hockey Association (GKGHA) players and team participants in the Ice Wolves Cup received free admission for the afternoon matchup. This weekend marks the 16th Annual GKGHA Ice Wolves Cup taking place January 4-6 as 88 girls' hockey teams will be in town competing. GKGHA players also skated at first intermission against one-another in a scrimmage game.

In the opening period penalties caught up with the Gaels in the late stages of the first. Finding themselves shorthanded, the Gryphons circled out to the point and in towards the net where Kaitlin Lowy took a pass across the ice and notched her 10th of the season at 16:30 of the first.

Another Gaels penalty ended the period giving the Gryphons the advantage heading to the second period but they were unable to capitalize as the two teams locked down defensively.

Queen's got their first powerplay opportunity in the third period when Katrina Manoukarakis drew an interference call. The Gryphons were able to hang on and even kill off another Gaels powerplay behind strong goaltending from Valerie Lamenta to keep their lead at 1-0.

The Gaels pulled goaltender Stephanie Pascal from the net for an extra attacker but the Gryphons held on for the 1-0 win.
