GAME OF THE WEEK
Men's Hockey
The No.8 men's hockey team (10-3-0) will host the Game of the Week as they welcome their cross-town rival, RMC Paladins (3-10-1), into the Memorial Centre on Saturday night.
Queen's hosted RMC for their home opener back on October 10, where the Gaels came away with a 4-0 win.
Jack Flinn made 36 saves in net as he shutout the Paladins for his first win in a Gaels' uniform.
The Paladins will enter the weekend on a four-game losing streak and currently sit ninth in the OUA East. The road has not been kind to the Paladins who are 1-5-0 away from the Constantine Arena. They are looking to snap a four-game losing streak against the Gaels which dates back to the 2016-17 season and also trying to find their first win at the Memorial Centre since January of 2013.
However, this is not an RMC squad to take lightly. Their three wins have come against top competition in the OUA East which includes an opening day win over Concordia and two victories over the Carleton Ravens. Deric Boudreau has been the standout talent for the Paladins with 15 points in 14 games, already surpassing his career-high of 11. They have been without rookie sensation Riley Brandt who put up 33 points for the Paladins last season.
Meanwhile for the Gaels, they are currently riding a four-game winning streak capped off by a 7-2 blowout victory over the Nipissing Lakers.
Mason Kohn continues to prove that he will be a force for years to come in the OUA with his 16 points so far in his rookie campaign.
Tickets for Saturday's game can be purchased at gogaelsgo.com/tickets or as always you can watch the action live on OUA.tv.
Before Saturday's showdown with RMC, the men's hockey team will be in action on Thursday night as they travel to Oshawa to take on the UOIT Ridgebacks (8-5-1).
The Gaels won their previous matchup in Oshawa earlier this season 3-0.
Justin Fazio made 30 saves for his first shutout in a Gaels' uniform.
Mason Kohn had a two-goal game as the Gaels cruised to a 3-0-0 start to their season.
Despite that loss, the Ridgebacks are off to a strong start to their season which includes statement wins over Concordia and UQTR. Danny Elser is having another stellar season, proving to be the Ridgebacks' top offensive scorer.
You can watch the Gaels take on Elser and the Ridgebacks on Thursday at 7:30pm on OUA.tv.
Men's Rugby
The men's rugby team (8-0, 2-0) are looking to build off their OUA Championship victory as they head to the Canadian University Rugby Championships, hosted by the Victoria Vikes. The tournament is split into two pools: Pool A features UBC, Guelph and Concordia, while Pool B features Queen's, Victoria and UNB.
The teams will play one game against each team in their pool with the top team earning a berth into the gold medal game on Sunday.
On Wednesday at 5pm ET, the Gaels will take on the UNB Varsity Reds. With no men's rugby championship in the AUS, The Varsity Reds took on the St. Francis-Xavier Axemen to earn an entry into the Canadian University Rugby Championships. They came away with a 39-0 win to earn the right to compete in Victoria.
Then on Thursday at 5pm ET, the Gaels will battle the host Victoria Vikes. The Vikes are one of the top men's rugby programs in Canada as they go hand-in-hand with training for the Canadian National Team. In last year's inaugural national championship, the Vikes fell to the UBC Thunderbirds 37-12 in the gold medal game. If the Gaels want a shot at the national title, they'll need to get through the University of Victoria first.
You can watch both games live at facebook.com/rugbycanada.

Women's Hockey
The No.10 women's hockey team (7-4-0-0) remain on the road for the second consecutive weekend as they take on a pair of Waterloo-based schools. The Gaels stand atop of the OUA standings, just one point ahead of the Nipissing Lakers. Now with an undeniable 1-2 combination in net, the Gaels look to pick up a pair of important wins to stay ahead of the Lakers as they head into the December break.
On Friday at 7pm, the Gaels will take on the Laurier Golden Hawks (2-6-0-1). The last time the Gaels visited Laurier, the two teams went to a shootout where the Golden Hawks squeaked out a 3-2 win to finish the regular season. The Gaels will have to beat Golden Hawk netminder Cohen Myers who has played in all nine of their games this year. She posts a .933 save percentage and just a 2.00 GAA, but hasn't received any goal support.
Then on Saturday at 2:30pm, the Gaels will battle the Waterloo Warriors (5-2-1-1). These two teams are very familiar with each other as they went to a third and deciding game in the opening round of last season's OUA playoffs. The Gaels were able to take the win or go home matchup 4-0 thanks to a 19-save shutout from
Stephanie Pascal.
You can catch the action live on OUA.tv.
Men's Volleyball
The No.9Â men's volleyball team (6-2) will head back out on the road as they take on the Trent Excalibur (0-6) in their lone matchup of the weekend. Game time is set for 8pm on Saturday.
The Gaels are gaining national attention with their recent stretch of wins.
Zac Hutcheson has been a star for the Gaels and a big reason for their early success earning him a Queen's Athlete of the Week award.
They currently sit two points ahead of Toronto for the top spot in the OUA East and are tied with Windsor for first place in the entire OUA. However, along with having the most wins in the OUA, the Gaels have also played the most sets by a large margin.
Through eight games the Gaels have played 38 sets, nine more than Windsor who have played 29. Fortunately for the Gaels they have ended up on the right side of many of those lengthy games, with both of their losses coming in five sets against top OUA squads (Windsor, Toronto).
Trent is off to a rough start to their season with only one set win in six games. Their men's volleyball team joined the OUA in the 2016-17 season and have yet to win a game. They've won just 11 sets in two 0-18 seasons prior to the 2018-19 campaign. The Gaels are hoping to not be the first to fall to the Excalibur on Friday night.
Women's Volleyball
The women's volleyball team (4-4) look to continue their two-game winning streak as they head to Peterborough to take on the Trent Excalibur (0-7). Game time is set for 6pm on Saturday.
The Gaels picked up their first weekend sweep of the season when they downed both the York Lions and Nipissing Lakers in four sets on home court. Now the Gaels will look to keep that momentum going against Trent for their final game before the December break.
They have been sharing the wealth during their past couple of wins as five players connected for over nine points in both matchups.
Caroline Livingston continues to climb up the OUA rankings with 100 kills, which ties her for second. Meanwhile,
Saffron van der Linde ranks third in the OUA with her 28 blocks on the season.
Looking for their first win of the season is Trent, who in two games against Queen's last season, lost twice include a five-set marathon in the final game of the regular season. The Gaels will look to continue this trend and head into the December break above .500.
Women's Basketball
The women's basketball team (6-1) will be in action for just one game this weekend as they head to Thunder Bay to take on the Lakehead Thunderwolves (5-1) on Friday at 6pm. You can catch the action on OUA.tv as both teams battle to get their name on the U SPORTS Top 10 list.
On paper, the matchup should be an interesting one as both teams are off to great starts to their seasons. The Thunderwolves are coming off an impressive road win over Carleton Ravens in which they limited the Ravens to a season low 52 points.
Defence is where both teams have similar strengths, with the Gaels averaging 57.9 points allowed per game, and the Thunderwolves right behind them at 60.0.They are a team that doesn't rebound as well as they would like, but make up for it with efficient shooting (41.0%).
The Gaels have had success this year creating open space and finding open shooters to take three-pointers. They will run into a Thunderwolves team which is second in the OUA in three-point defence, allowing just 24.6% on the season.
Men's Basketball
The men's basketball team (4-3) will take on the Lakehead Thunderwolves (2-4) in Thunder Bay on Friday at 8pm. You can catch the action on OUA.tv.
The Gaels bounced back after a loss on Friday and handled the Waterloo Warriors to get back a game above .500.
Tanner Graham hit a milestone with his 1000
th career point becoming the sixth Gaels player to hit the mark. He now sits just 33 points behind Mike Burleigh (1,048) to crack the Gael's top five in all-time scoring.
Last season, the Gaels kicked off their regular season with a 95-68 win on home court over the Thunderwolves. Now, they will try to do the same on the road against a Lakehead team which allows 87.0 points per game, fourth highest in the OUA.
With a win on Friday, the Gaels would get right back on track after a shaky start to their season.
