Women's Volleyball
The women's volleyball team (2-4) are looking for a bounce back weekend after dropping their last two on the road. They're hoping some home cooking will do the trick as they return to the ARC for the first time since opening weekend.
On Super Saturday, they'll take on the York Lions (4-0) at 1pm. Despite an 8-11 record last season, the Lions are off to a fast start dropping only two sets so far. Offensively, they are led by Aleksandra Steins and Kayla Clennon who will look to pose another tough challenge for the Gaels in this early part of the season.
Then on Sunday, the Gaels will host the Nipissing Lakers (2-1) at 1pm. The Lakers two wins have come against Trent and Lakehead, who both sit at the bottom of their divisions currently. Last season, the Gaels didn't drop a set against the Lakers with two 3-0 sweeps. They'll look to continue that trend on Sunday afternoon.
Tickets for both games can be found at gogaelsgo.com/tickets or you can watch the action live on OUA.tv.
Men's Volleyball
The No.9 men's volleyball team (4-2) are on a roll an currently sit on top of the OUA East. Their recent success has much to do with their five-set upset over the top-ranked team in the country, the McMaster Marauders. Now, they carry their momentum into the ARC for the first time since opening weekend.
On Super Saturday, the Gaels will battle the York Lions (1-2) at 3pm. The Lions have struggled at the start of this season, with their lone win coming in a 3-0 sweep over Trent. However, this team is to not be taken lightly as they have two First Team All-Stars, Logan Mend and Andrew Shotbolt, on their squad.
Then on Sunday, the Gaels will host the Nipissing Lakers (2-0) at 3pm. There is a major disparity in time of play between these two teams as the Lakers have played just games to start the season. Meanwhile, all six of the Gaels' games this season have gone to five-sets.
Tickets for both games can be found at gogaelsgo.com/tickets or you can watch the action live on OUA.tv.
Women's Basketball
The women's basketball team (4-1) will look to carry over their dominance from last weekend as they take on two opponents from the OUA West. The Gaels' won their two home opening games against Guelph and Algoma by a combined 154-86.
On Friday, the Laurier Golden Hawks (2-4) come to town for a special school day game at the ARC. The Gaels will be hosting schools from around the area with game time set to begin at 11am. The Golden Hawks rank 13
th in the OUA with their 57 points per game. The Gaels will look to use this to their advantage as they currently boast the conference's sixth rank defence, surrendering under 56 points per game.
Then on Super Saturday, the Gaels will host the Waterloo Warriors (1-5) at 6pm. The Warriors have a strong and lengthy team in the post who lead the OUA with an average of five blocks per game. This may force the Gaels to utilize their three-point shooting more than they may like, however, they are clicking on 35.1% of their three-point attempts which is second in the OUA.
Tickets for both games can be found at gogaelsgo.com/tickets or you can watch the action live on OUA.tv.
Men's Basketball
The men's basketball team (3-2) are also coming off a dominant home opening weekend where they put up a combined 177 points in wins over Guelph and Algoma.
On Friday, the Gaels will take on the Laurier Golden Hawks (3-3) for a special 1pm school day game. The Golden Hawks have battled hard to start the season putting up impressive performances against powerhouse programs such as Carleton, Brock and Ottawa.
Then on Super Saturday, the Gaels will take on the Waterloo Warriors (0-6) at 8pm. Waterloo has had a tough schedule to begin the season but are soon to enter a more manageable part of their season. They'll be in tough against the Gaels who are putting up an average of 81.3 points per game, good enough for third in the OUA.
Tickets for both games can be found at gogaelsgo.com/tickets or you can watch the action live on OUA.tv.
Men's Hockey
The No.7 men's hockey team (8-3-0) swept away the UQTR Patriotes in doubleheader action last weekend getting them back on track in the OUA East.
On Friday, the Gaels will take on the Laurentian Voyageurs at 7:30pm from the Memorial Centre. As much as the Gaels were able to build some confidence after their performance last weekend, the same could be said about the Voyageurs play of late. They took down the Carleton Ravens 3-2 on home ice before pushing the top team in the OUA, the Ottawa Gee-Gees, to the limit in a 6-5 loss.
Then on Saturday, the Gaels will square off with the Nipissing Lakers (2-8-0) at 7:30pm from the Memorial Centre. The Lakers have allowed the second most goals in the OUA (41) and as a result they've fallen behind in games and have not been able to claw their way back. Their goaltending has been barraged by shots and have a .894 save percentage as a result. The Gaels will look to exploit this and continue their six game winning streak over Nipissing.
Tickets for both games can be found at gogaelsgo.com/tickets or you can watch the action live on OUA.tv.
Women's Hockey
After hosting four of their last five games, the women's hockey team (6-3-0-0) head up north for matchups with Nipissing (2-3-4-0) and Laurentian (3-3-1-2).
Action will begin on Friday morning as Nipissing Lakers is hosting a school day game. Game time is set for 11am between these two rivals. The Lakers took the lone meeting earlier this season 2-1 thanks to a third period powerplay goal from Sam Strassburger. Stephanie Pascal back in net who had a 29-save shutout in her lone start on the season.
Then on Saturday, the Gaels will take on the Laurentian Voyageurs at 4pm. The Gaels kicked off their regular season with a 4-2 win over the Voyageurs at the Memorial Centre.
Hailey Wilson had a goal and an assist during the win which included a highlight reel end-to-end goal.
Makenzy Arsenault made 23 saves for her first win of the season.
