KINGSTON, Ont. (November 11, 2018) – The No.10 Queen's Gaels (6-3-0-0) fell in a 3-0 shutout to the Ryerson Rams (4-2-2-0) on Sunday afternoon at the Memorial Centre.
ICE WOLVES DAY
The Kingston Ice Wolves were in attendance on Sunday afternoon to watch the Gaels in action. They took the ice during the first intermission for a scrimmage game in front of the fans.
GAME FLOW
The opening of the game caught the Gaels by surprise as they spent the majority of the first period trapped in their own defensive zone.
The Rams' forecheck eventually hurt the Gaels as Brooklyn Gemmill found a loose puck out in front and sent a backhand shot into the net for the game's opening goal.
A scary scene occurred in the final minute of the first as a collision near the Rams' bench led to
Hailey Wilson having to exit the game with an injury.
The second period was a different story for the Gaels who generated multiple scoring opportunities but ran into red-hot goaltender Fanny Vigeant who shut the door.
Meanwhile, the Rams added to their lead as Kryshanda Green entered the zone and sent a shot on net. The rebound bounced right back to her as she buried it to put the Rams up 2-0 at the second intermission.
With their backs against the wall the Gaels attempted to ramp up the pressure but were stopped by the Rams defensive core.
Midway through the period, Erika Crouse scored on a wide open one-timer opportunity to bring their lead to 3-0.
The Gaels were unable to find the net for the rest of the period as Rams' netminder Fanny Vigeant picked up her first shutout of the season.
BY THE NUMBERS
0-for-5 – The Gaels had five powerplay opportunities within the first two periods of the game, which included a 5-on-3 opportunity.
24 – The Gaels sent 24 shots on net, most of which were tipped opportunities from the point.
