KINGSTON, Ont. (October 12th, 2018) – The Queen's Gaels (4-2-0-0) downed the Brock Badgers (2-1-0-0) 3-0 on Saturday night in OUA women's hockey action.
GAME FLOW
After last night's stout defensive effort against York, the Gaels looked to go 2-for-2 and take away all six points from the weekend up against the Brock Badgers.
After a scoreless opening ten minutes, marked only by unsuccessful power plays by both teams, the Gaels found the score sheet through a wonderful individual effort from
Katrina Manoukarakis as she beat her defender with speed and roofed the puck top-blocker side, making the score 1-0 for the Gaels. The Gaels would take this lead into the 1st intermission, having also outshot the Badgers 17-6.
In the second period, The Gaels doubled the advantage of a terrific cross ice pass from
Addi Halladay to first-year defenseman
Nicole Posesorski (scoring her first ever OUA goal). Queen's would add another goal on the power play later in the period, as
Katrina Manoukarakis scored her second of the night on a clever wraparound which caught the Badgers netminder Jensen Murphy out of position. After forty minutes, the Gaels led the Badgers 3-0 while also outshooting the Badgers 29-14.
In a relatively uneventful third period, the Gaels held strong defensively while the Badgers struggled to figure out Queen's goaltender
Makenzy Arsenault. After making 21 saves in a shutout effort last night, Arsenault stood tall once again making 21 saves for her second consecutive shutout.
At the final whistle, the Gaels walked away with a 3-0 victory and all six points on offer over the course of the weekend in the OUA standings.
