GAMES OF THE WEEK
Men's Soccer
The men's soccer team (9-6-1) will get begin their journey for the OUA Championship when the playoffs get underway tonight.
Â
They will take on the Nipissing Lakers (6-9-1) in the OUA East Quarterfinal tonight at 7pm at Richardson Stadium.
Â
Admission is free for all fans so come on out and cheer on the Gaels!
Â
The Gaels were successful in their last meeting with the Lakers as
Kyle Owens delivered on a penalty kick to give the Gaels a 1-0 win.
Alex Jones made all four saves in net to blank Nipissing for a key win on the road.
Â
Queen's enters Wednesday's contest on a high note winning three of their last four games including the 1-0 win over Nipissing. The Gaels will look for
Alex Jones to have another strong game in net and build off his five-shutout season. Offensively,
Michael Chang and
Brevin MacKay will look to lead the way as they both tallied five goals on the season.
Â
For Nipissing, their biggest threat is Ryan Roy who had a career-high five goals this season while averaging over a shot on goal per game. In net they'll likely go with Andrew Johnstone who has two shutout victories this season over RMC and Trent.
Â
Women's Soccer
The No.10 women's soccer team (8-3-5) have a bye through the first round of the OUA playoffs meaning they will get their postseason underway on Sunday afternoon. Game time is set for 1pm at Richardson Stadium on Sunday, however their opponent is yet to be determined.
Â
Admission will be free for all fans!
Â
If the Carleton Ravens (7-3-6) win in their first round matchup with the Toronto Varsity Blues (5-6-5) then it will set up a matchup with Queen's in the OUA East Semifinal. However, if the Ravens lose the Gaels will take on the winner of UOIT (7-5-4) vs. Nipissing (7-4-5).
Â
The Gaels enter the playoffs with three draws and a loss in their last four games. However, their dominant play earlier in the season allowed them to lock up the second seed and a bye. Not playing on Wednesday will be an advantage for the Gaels as it will allow them to rest up and prepare for their upcoming opponent.
Â
Queen's will need
Jenny Wolever to get back to her scoring ways if they want to be successful. After her two goal performance on Oct. 7 against UOIT, she has been held scoreless and the Gaels offence has struggled. Her league-leading 13 goals was surpassed by McMaster's Stephanie Roberts after she picked up five goals over the final weekend of the regular season.
Â
In net, the Gaels will likely rely on
Anna Stephenson who has been very consistent all season long. She's picked up four shutouts and never allowed more than two goals in a single outing.
Â
Â
Men's Volleyball
The men's volleyball team gets their regular season underway as they look to earn their second consecutive OUA medal after grabbing the silver and a berth into the U SPORTS National championship last year.

Â
Cross Country
The Gaels' cross country teams are beginning their postseason on Saturday as they head to London, Ont. for the OUA Championship hosted by Western University.
Â
The women's team ranks No.1 in the nation led by Branna and
Brogan MacDougall. Last season,
Branna MacDougall won the OUA Championship while taking home OUA MVP and First Team All-Star honours. She'll have some tough competition coming from her own bloodline as
Brogan MacDougall has had a strong season picking up a win in the NCAA's Paul Short Run's gold division race.
Â
Both the MacDougall's and the No.8 men's team sat out the McMaster Invitational to prepare for the busy schedule that they have ahead. Which includes the U SPORTS National Championship, which will be hosted by Queen's University at Fort Henry Hill on Saturday, November 10.
Â
Rowing
The men's and women's rowing team will be in action this weekend as they head to the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta in St. Catharines, Ont. for the OUA Championship.
The championship will begin on Thursday, October 25 and conclude on Saturday, October 27.
Â
The Gaels' top rowers will look to bring home some OUA awards as they prepare for the upcoming CURC Championships in early November.

Â
Women's Basketball
The women's basketball team gets their season underway on Friday, October 26 as they take on the York Lions in Toronto. Game time is set for 6pm and can be seen live on OUA.tv.
Â
The Gaels had a very successful 17-6 season last year as they finished second in the OUA East. However, they were upset in the OUA Quarterfinal by the Ottawa Gee-Gees. Fortunately for the Gaels, much of their core remains intact for one more season as their leading scorers
Marianne Alarie and
Veronika Lavergne return for their fifth and fourth seasons.
Â
They start their season with a matchup against York who finished 11-12 last season. The Gaels took both games to the Lions including a 71-60 win on the road and a 73-53 win at the ARC.Â
Â
A full team preview will be posted within the coming days.
Â
Men's Basketball
After a lengthy preseason that dates back to early August, the men's basketball team finally gets their regular season underway as they head to Toronto for a battle with the York Lions. Game time is set for Friday, October 26 at 8pm.
Â
The Gaels finished last season with an 11-12 record before falling to the third seed Ryerson Rams in the first round of the playoffs. However, this year the Gaels look to make a statement led by brothers Tanner and
Jesse Graham, along with key players such as
Matt Elcock,
Jaz Bains and
Harry Range.
Â
Last season, the Gaels picked up two dominant victories over the York Lions who finished the season with an OUA East worst 2-21 record. The Gaels took the first matchup at home 82-61 followed by a 93-68 win on the road.
Â
You can catch all the action live on OUA.tv.
Â
A full team preview will be posted within the coming days.
Â
Men's Hockey
The No.6 men's hockey team (4-1-0) return to the road this weekend as they make a trip to Waterloo, Ont. After hosting a pair of matchups against OUA West squads last weekend, the Gaels now make the trip out west to battle the Waterloo Warriors and Laurier Golden Hawks.
Â
The Gaels are coming off a weekend where they were stunned at home in a 7-1 loss to No.9 Guelph before rebounding for a win over No.7 Brock. On Friday at 7pm, the Gaels take on the Waterloo Warriors (1-3-2) who have allowed a league-high, 29 goals this season.
Â
Then on Saturday at 7:00pm, the Gaels square off with the Laurier Golden Hawks (0-5-0) who are off to a rough start to their season. In five games they have been outscored 22-13 as they remain the only winless team in the OUA.
Â
You can catch both games live on OUA.tv this weekend.
Â
Women's Hockey
The women's hockey team (2-2-0-0) have had an up and down start to their season, yet despite that they have the second most amount of goals in the conference with 10.
Â
This weekend, the Gaels return to the Kingston Memorial Centre for a pair of matchups against teams who have played just one game so far this season.
Â
On Friday at 7:30pm, the Gaels host the York Lions (1-0-0-0). The Lions picked up a win in their lone game of the season last weekend as they beat the Waterloo Warriors 1-0.
Â
Then on Saturday at 7:30pm, the Gaels host the Brock Badgers (1-0-0-0) who defeated Laurier 3-1 in their lone game of the season.
Â
You can get tickets to both games at gogaelsgo.com/tickets or you can watch the game live on OUA.tv.
Â
The Gaels got their offence rolling in their last game as they found the back of the net four times. It was a positive sign for Queen's to see their top scorers in
Katrina Manoukarakis,
Caroline DeBruin, Addia Halladay and
Hailey Wilson get on the board after scoring just two goals in their previous two games.
Â
With a strong performance at home this weekend the Gaels can propel themselves back near the top of the OUA standings as the season begins to take shape.
