LONDON, Ont. (October 19, 2018) – The Queen's women's hockey team (1-0-2-0) fell 4-1 to the No.7 Western Mustangs (1-0-0-0) on Friday night.
GAME FLOW
After a scoreless first period, the Gaels opened the scoring in the second when
Taylor Hicks found the back of the net on the powerplay. Her second goal of the year gave the Gaels a 1-0 advantage.
However, from then on the Mustangs took advantage. Just over a minute later, Alyssa Chiarello scored to tie the game up 1-1.
The third period opened with the game up for the taking. Five minutes in Western was the first to strike as April Clark took a pass from Chiarello to give the Mustangs a 2-1 edge.
Then after a quick penalty call, the Mustangs used their sudden momentum to create another scoring chance. Alyssa Chiarello scored her second goal of the game just 48 seconds after Clark's goal to give the Mustangs a 3-1 lead.
Rachel Armstrong added an empty netter to seal the game.
POWERPLAY WOES
Over the past two games the Gaels have gone 1-10 on powerplay opportunities. They have had their opportunities to put goals on the board but the team who finished 3
rd last season with 15 powerplay goals has struggled with what is usually one of their strengths.
BY THE NUMBERS

Makenzy Arsenault made 19 of 23 saves in her third straight start to open the season.
2 – Despite the difference in the score, the result did not come from the Western powerplay as the Gaels took just two penalties all game long.
3 – Chiarello had three points as she played her strongest game of the year against the Gaels.
UP NEXT
The Gaels will be back in action tomorrow afternoon as they take on the Windsor Lancers (0-3-0-0). They will look to bounce back with a win against a Windsor team who have allowed 12 goals in three games.
