Erin Lee (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont.), Cameron McPhaden (Montreal) and Julie-Anne Staehli (Lucknow, Ont.) united to compete in the Kingston Triathlon this past long weekend.
The Cumberland Private Wealth Management Long Course Triathlon Relay kicked off at 8:00 am on Sunday, August 6th.
Lee, a second-year swimmer for the Gaels, headed the race with a strong start for the Gaels team. Lee completed the 2km swim with the fastest female swimmer time and second fastest time among all competitors.
Queen's cyclist McPhaden continued the relay with a 56.2km bike ride along Kingston's highway 2. The veteran racer demonstrated his experience finishing the ride with the fastest cycle time in the triathlon relay.
Following McPhaden, fifth-year cross-country and track runner Staehli pushed the pace in the final stretch of the relay. Staehli finished the triathlon as the fastest female runner. She had the second fastest time among all race competitors.
Lee, McPhaden and Staehli combined for an impressive time of 2:41:15. The tricolour trifecta was a full half hour faster than the next relay time and ten minutes ahead of the individual winner in the pro division.
