LONDON, Ont. (February 3, 2017) – The Queen's Gaels (8-4-7-0) were defeated by the Western Mustangs (9-2-9-1) 6-3 Friday evening in OUA women's hockey action. The loss saw the Gaels snap their eight game win streak and suffer their first regulation loss of 2017.

In the first period, the Gaels came out strong scoring two back-to-back goals. Thirteen minutes into the period,
Addi Halladay (North Augusta, Ont.) opened the scoring for the Gaels with a quick shot in the slot.
Megan Farrell (Barrie, Ont.) and
Katrina Manoukarakis (Scarborough, Ont.) picked up the assists. Off the faceoff just 14 seconds later,
Kyla Crouse (Mount Brydges, Ont.) scored for the Gaels to extend the lead to 2-0.
Jessica Wakefield (Lucan, Ont.) and
Nadia Larocca (Mississauga, Ont.) assisted on the play and the Gaels were out in front comfortably 2-0.
In the second, Western responded, scoring three three straight goals to take a 3-2 lead. Two minutes into the period, Lyndsay Kirkham scored for the Mustangs, with Brianna Rice assisting. Later in the period, April Clark scored to tie the game 2-2. Kirkham and Evra Levesque picked up the assists. With one second left in the period, Kirkham picked up her second goal of the game for the Mustangs. This gave Western a 3-2 lead heading into the third period.
In the third, Kirkham scored her third goal of the game to give the Mustangs a 4-2 lead. Evra Levesque and Anthea Lasis assisted. Several minutes later, Queen's fought back, scoring on the powerplay. Wakefield scored for the Gaels, Crouse and
Danelle Bishoff (Calgary, Alta.) assisted on the tally. The Mustangs once again pushed ahead, scoring two more goals to take a 6-3 final. Ali Beres scored with Alyssa Chiarello assisting. April Clark picked up the Mustangs last goal, scoring on an open net after the Gaels pulled their goalie.
