HAMILTON (February 24, 2017) - The Queen's Gaels (9-9) traveled to Hamilton to face the No.8 McMaster Marauders (15-3) where they lost in three straight sets to snap the Gaels four-game winning streak.
GAME FLOW
The Gaels began the match with the first serve by Victoria Wensley (Coquitlam, B.C.) and an attacking error put Queen's up 1-0. They continued to control the play early as Danielle Corrigan (North Vancouver, B.C.) and Caroline Livingston (Kelowna, B.C.) went for back-to-back kills giving the Gaels an early 5-2 edge. The second set started out strong for the Gaels once again, this time keeping a lead of their own through to 8-7. Unfortunately, at a tied score of 8-8 a series of attack errors led to a string of points for the Marauders who jumped ahead 15-8. Unable to come back into the game and regain their lead, the Gaels lost 25-18 in the second set.
The third set was a strong game for the Marauders, with a hitting percentage of .522 they were making kill after kill looking to close out the match. Fighting back the Gaels were able to make up a few points but McMaster was too strong taking nine straight and one point and sealing the match with a 25-11 third set win.
