WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Gaels visit Trent looking for a win
The Queen's women's volleyball team (5-8) are in need of a win as they visit the Trent Excalibur (2-9) on Friday night at 6pm in their lone match of the weekend.

The Gaels fell out of a playoff position after dropping a pair of games last weekend at Ryerson and Toronto. Queen's currently sits just two points back of both Nipissing and York for the final two playoff spots but have played one more game than both of those school's. For the Gaels a win over the Excalibur is a must this weekend to keep their playoff chances in good standing.

For Trent, they enter the weekend having lost six straight games and their only two wins of the season are against Brock and RMC. The Gaels made shot work of the Excalibur to open the season in Kingston taking their first meeting in straight sets.

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL: Queen's visits winless Trent
The Queen's Gaels (8-5) are looking to jockey for positioning in the top four of the OUA East this weekend when they visit the Trent Excalibur (0-10) at 8pm on Friday, a team that has yet to win a match this season.

Queen's has played two more games than both Nipissing and York but the tree schools are currently all tied for second spot in the OUA East. The Gaels are also just two points behind Ryerson for the top spot with both teams having played 13 games this season. Queen's is coming off a 1-1 road weekend that saw them lose in five sets to Ryerson before beating Toronto in five sets last Saturday. Markus Trence (Orangeville, Ont.) set a new career high with 24 kills in the Gaels victory over Toronto that went to five sets.

For Trent, they are still in search of the programs first win since joining the OUA officially to start this season. They currently sit at 0-10 and are in last place in the OUA East.

WOMEN'S HOCKEY: Wakefield and the Gaels hit the road looking to stay hot
The Gaels women's hockey team (8-4-6-0) will look to extend their eight-game winning streak this Friday when they visit the Western Mustangs (8-2-9-1) at 7:00pm Friday night. Queen's will close out the weekend with an afternoon affair Saturday at Ryerson (4-1-11-3) with puck drop set for 2:30pm.

Queen's continues to be one of the hottest teams in the nation and are winners of eight straight games. The Gaels came back from an early two-goal deficit at home to Laurentian last Friday to win in a shootout 4-3. Captain Jessica Wakefield (Lucan, Ont.) came through with a clutch move on a penalty shot with just a minute left in regulation to tie the game at 3-3. With neither team able to score in regulation the Gaels then won in a shootout where Wakefield scored the lone goal and Stephanie Pascal (Sudbury, Ont.) shut the door in net.

The Gaels meet Western for the first time this season, the Mustangs will be without defenceman Brianna Iazzolino and coach Kelly Paton who are currently with the Canadian Universiade team in Kazakhstan. Western is coming off a pair of road wins last weekend at York and Brock. The Ryerson Rams have lost seven straight games to start 2017 having scored just two goal over that span. The Rams have been shutout in six of the seven games.

The Gaels (6-8) are looking to snap a seven game losing skid this weekend when they visit the No.5 Ryerson Rams (13-1) Friday and the Toronto Varsity Blues (9-5) Saturday with both games set for 8pm tip-offs.

For fifth-year guard Sukhpreet Singh (Toronto) the weekend could prove to be a historical one as he closes in on the Gaels men's basketball all-time scoring record. The Gaels will be in tough against the Rams and Varsity Blues who both defeated Queen's at the ARC earlier in January.
