Rowing nabs three national medals at CURC Sunday

Sunday's Canadian Rowing University Championships saw an impressive showing as the Gaels competed for national titles.

Starting off the morning races on Burnaby Lake was Gavin Stone of the Men's Single. Ranked 5th from yesterday's time trial, Stone went on to move through the field, finishing a half-second behind 2nd and winning the bronze with a time of 6:51.2.

Continuing into the morning would see the pair of Paige Adams and Cassidy Deane racing the A Final for the Women's Pair, ultimately finishing 6th. Louise Munro, building off the momentum Stone set in place earlier in the day, would challenge the University of Victoria in the Women's Single. Finishing with a time of 8:20.4, more than 10 seconds ahead of the next boat, Munro would win national silver for the Gaels.

Immediately following Munro's performance were the duo of Alexander Bernst and Nicholas Grubic in the Lightweight Men's Double. Competing against defending champions, the Lattimer brothers of UBC, Alex and Nick would add another national medal to the Gaels' total, winning Silver with a time of 6:56.5.

Next were Elliot Hall and Robert Cadman racing the A Final for the Men's Pair. Facing tough competition, the pair would improve on yesterday's standing and finish 5th overall with a time of 7:26.0. Finishing off the day was Greta Chase of the Lightweight Women's Single. Racing B Final, Chase would go on to tie Ottawa for a 4th place finish in a time of 8:58.5.

Evan Notley who was racing the B Final for the Lightweight Men's Single, unfortunately, did not finish his race.

With three national medals to their name and the University Season concluded, the Gaels now look ahead to the National Rowing Championships. Also taking place out west, those competing will stay in BC to continue training until November 9th when racing commences.
