OUA Championships
The Gaels men's water polo team headed to Ottawa this past weekend for the 2017 OUA Men's Water Polo Championships hosted by Carleton University at Alumni Hall.
The No. 3 seed at the Championships, Toronto, Carleton, McMaster, Western and Ottawa were also in attendance.

Quarterfinal – Queen's 17, uOttawa 6
The Gaels were relentless in the opener of the 2017 Championship against the Gryphons, dominating from the first period on. Led by powerful captain Alexander Cox-Twardowski's four first-half goals, Queen's got out to an intimidating 11-3 lead at the half.
It was a closer second half, but the Gaels easily secured the 17-6 win. Connor Crowe joined Cox-Twardowski in playing a crucial role in the win. He found the back of the net six times, leading the Gaels' potent offence.
With the win, Queen's advanced to the semifinals against the second-seeded Carleton Ravens.
Semifinal – Carleton 10, Queen's 2
While it began as a close battle, Carleton quickly exploded to an assertive 10-2 win over Queen's. The Ravens rode stellar defense and a masterful shooting from Dusan Boskovic, who marked five on the day, to victory. Captain Yorek Hurrelmann also played a key role as an immovable wall in net.
Carleton opened the match with a clinical display of passing to draw first blood. The Ravens broke through big in the second to carry a dominant 6-0 lead at the half. Carleton continued to control the game, extending their lead four more times and solidified the 10-2 semifinal win.
"All around I was very happy. This is a team that's always prided itself on defence and that was an excellent display of defence," said head coach Zoltan Csepregi.
With the loss, Queen's will fight Western for third place at 10:50 a.m. Carleton will continue its crusade for a fifth OUA banner against Toronto on Sunday at 2 p.m. "We lost last year 7-0, which is fresh in a lot of guys' minds," added Csepregi. "I think we'll see a different game tomorrow and I think they're ready to do it."
Bronze Medal Game – Queen's 8, Western 3
The Gaels controlled the Mustangs in a tightly contested battle en route to a 8-3 OUA bronze medal match win. Alexander Cox-Twardowski contributed three goals to power the Queen's offence.
Queen's got off to a quality start, taking a 5-2 lead into the half. Goaltender Trevor Robinson played a crucial role in keeper Western at bay with multiple nice stops early in the game. Western got back on the board in the third but Queen's sealed the win with three fourth-period marks, taking the bronze 8-3.
Gaels captain Alex Cox-Twardowski was named an OUA All-Star this weekend while Goalie Trevor Robinson was named teh Most Valuable Goalie.

Women's Water Polo
NCWP Championships
The Queen's women's water polo team finished fifth in the 2017 National Collegiate Water Polo Championships hosted by Carleton University in Ottawa this past weekend.
Following a tough loss to the Gee-Gees, the Gaels took on the Guelph Gryphons for fifth place. A convincing 13-2 victory saw league All-Star Caitlyn Neapole score five goals for the Gaels.
Seeded fourth, the Queen's Gaels water polo team competed at Alumni Hall alongside Toronto, Guelph, McMaster, Carleton and Ottawa.

Quarterfinal – uOttawa 13, Queen's 8
The Gee-Gees got off to a quick start against the higher-ranked Gaels, holding a 7-2 lead through the first two periods. Queen's rebounded to match Ottawa the rest of the way, but it was already too late. The early five-goal deficit proved insurmountable as the Gee-Gees prevailed 13-8.
Queen's supplied their offence with a balanced attack from six different players.
Consolation Final – Queen's 13, Guelph 3
