No. 8 Gaels win eighth straight in 4-1 victory over Varsity Blues

KINGSTON, Ont. (November 25, 2017) – In an afternoon game today, the No. 8 Queen's Gaels (8-2-0-1) were able to put together a strong all-around effort and beat the Toronto Varsity Blues (5-0-5-1) by a score of 4-1. The win marked the Gaels eighth straight victory, dating back to October 22nd.

GAME FLOW
Just over two minutes into the game, the Varsity Blues opened the scoring when Louie Bieman pounced on a rebound to take a 1-0 lead. The Gaels responded at the 6:23 mark when Bryce Desa (London, Ont.) notched a power play marker to tie the game 1-1. On another power play late in the period, Katrina Manoukarakis (Scarborough, Ont.) was able to create a 2 on 1 and keep the puck before roofing her team leading seventh goal of the season. After a big save by Stephanie Pascal (Sudbury, Ont.), the Gaels were able to head into the intermission leading 2-1.

Alex Maw (Whitby, Ont.) was able to give the Gaels a 3-1 lead when she finished off a beautiful spinning pass from Addi Halladay (North Augusta, Ont.) with a one timer past Toronto goaltender Katey Teekasingh. Pascal was again solid in net, and came up with some timely saves to keep the Varsity Blues off the score sheet.

The Gaels were able to add to their lead add the 11:43 mark when Hailey Wilson (Pickering, Ont.) won a foot race with a Varsity Blues defender before coming in all alone and wiring a slap shot past Teekasingh, putting the Gaels up 4-1. Despite being outshot 8-2 in the third period, the tricolour held up and closed the game out to take the 4-1 victory.

Pascal picked up the win in net for Queen's, registering 23 saves, while Teekasingh took the loss for Toronto.
