Popov, Hunt and Slevinksy join Canadian Senior National Women's Rugby Team for test match series against England

LONDON, ENGLAND – Canada interim head coach Sandro Fiorino has named his starting roster to face England on Friday in the first-of-three test matches of their November tour and three Queen's Gaels will be making their debut with the team.

The first game to be played at Allianz Park on Friday 17 November, kick off 19:30, live stream via Englandrugby.com and England Rugby Facebook.

Coming off a U SPORTS championship appearance and OUA silver medal Nadia Popov, McKinley Hunt and Janna Slevinsky are all with the national team and could earn their first caps as soon as Friday.

"This is a massive honour for these three athletes, and very well-deserved," said Gaels head coach Dan Valley on the trio of Gaels.  "It also validates our program as a legitimate pathway towards representative rugby on the international stage – my sincere hope is that Queen's Women's Rugby is able to play a part in athletes' journeys towards competing at World Cups and Olympics. Hopefully this is just the beginning - we couldn't be more proud of these athletes, and can't wait to watch them compete!"

Nadia Popov is starting at 11 in the starting 15 for Friday while Hunt and Slevinsky are reserves at 19 and 20 respectively.

Hunt and Slevinsky are both two-time All-Canadians while Popov was an All-Canadian once with Queen's.

The two sides will next meet in a midweek fixture at The Stoop on Tuesday 21 November, kick off 19:45, before playing in the series finale at Twickenham Stadium, kick off at 17:40 (live Sky Sports Arena & Sky Sports Mix) with free entry after the men's game against Samoa.

England and Canada have faced off a total of 25 times, with Canada winning four. The two sides most recently met in Christchurch, New Zealand this year during the International women's Rugby Series in June, with Canada narrowly losing 27-20.
