GUELPH, Ont. (October 6, 2017) - The Queen's men's volleyball team is in Guelph for Thanksgiving weekend at the Guelph Invitational where they will face-off against Laval, Trinity Western and Alberta.
DAY 1 Queen's 1, Laval 3
The Queen's Gaels dropped a 3-1 decision in their first game at the Guelph Invitational to the Laval Rouge et Or who finished 6th at the U SPORTS National Championship last season.
Markus Trence was once again the lead offensively putting up 20 kills on 44 attacks while Jack Peckham also had a strong outing for the Tricolour posting eight kills and a game high five blocks.
The schedule doesn't get easier for the Gaels as they take on the defending national champion Trinity Western Spartans Saturday followed by the national silver medalist Alberta Golden Bears Sunday.
DAY 2 Trinity Western 3, Queen's 0
The Gaels were outmatched by the defending national champions in Guelph on Saturday night falling in straight sets 3-0 to Trinity Western.
Set scores finished 25-20, 25-21 & 25-23 in favour of the Spartans.
Joel Rudd led Queen's in kills on the night with 10 while
Thomas Ellison had 23 assists for the Gaels.
DAY 3 Alberta 3, Queen's 0
The 2017 national runners up defeated Queen's in straight sets Sunday morning 3-0.
Markus Trence has a game high 12 kills for Queen's who leave Guelph with an 0-3 record against some of Canada's best competition.
Set scores finished 25-14, 25-17 & 25-19 in favour of Alberta.
