Pascal impresses in 3-1 victory over No.7 Gryphons

KINGSTON, Ont. (October 28, 2017) – The Queen's Gaels (3-0-0-1) held on to take a 3-1 decision over the No.7 Guelph Gryphons (1-0-3-0) on Saturday afternoon. Addi Halladay (North Augusta, Ont.) scored an empty netter with 12 seconds remaining to seal the deal after a strong rally by the Gryphons to close out the game. Stephanie Pascal (Sudbury, Ont.) was outstanding in net for the Gaels, picking up 29 saves in the victory.

GAME FLOW
The Gaels came out flying and were able to jump out to an early lead when Katrina Manoukarakis (Scarborough, Ont.) potted her OUA leading fourth goal of the season on a snap shot through the legs of Guelph goaltender Valerie Lamenta at 4:49 of the first period. Queen's was also able to take full advantage of a 5-on-3 power play. After moving the puck around, Micaela Smith (Cobourg, Ont.) scored her first goal of the season on a wrist shot to extend the Gaels lead to 2-0.

After thouroughly dominating the first period, the Gaels took a step back in the second. The Gryphons cut the Gaels lead to 2-1 when Kelly Gribbons wired a wrist shot top shelf past Pascal at 12:37.

Guelph gave Queen's all they could handle in the third period, trying hard for the equalizing goal. With a minute and a half remaining in the period, the Gryphons would call timeout and pull Lamenta for an extra attacker. After a flurry of puck movement and goal scoring opportunities, the Gaels were able to clear the puck down the ice where Halladay would chase it down and put it into the empty cage to make the score 3-1.

Pascal picked up her third win of the season in net for the Gaels while Lamenta would record 30 saves in the loss for the Gryphons.
