KINGSTON, Ont. (October 29, 2017) – The Queen's Gaels (4-0-0-1) defeated the York Lions (0-0-4-1) by a score of 4-1 on Sunday afternoon. A well balanced, strong attack and some solid defence gave the Gaels the upper hand as they controlled play for most of the game.
Bryce Desa (London, Ont.) had a strong game for Queen's, scoring her first two goals of the season.
GAME FLOW
The Gaels came out firing against the Lions and had several chances in the first period to take the lead, including on an extended 5 on 3 power play. Lions goaltender Roxanne Kis was sharp in net as she turned aside all 17 of Queen's first period shot attempts in order to keep the game tied 0-0 going into the break.
Queen's was finally able to solve Kis in the second frame when
Addi Halladay (North Augusta, Ont.) took advantage of a power play and found the back of the net with a wrist shot from the point for her second goal of the season. A few minutes later, Desa was able to extend the Gaels lead to 2-0 when she finished off a great pass from
Taylor Hicks (Whitby, Ont.). The Lions would respond on a power play at 12:35 when Erin Locke wristed one past Queen's goalie
Makenzy Arsenault (Whitby, Ont.) to cut the lead to 2-1.
Desa extended the Gaels lead to 3-1 at 3:30 of the third period with her second of the game when she beat Kis with a point shot through a screen on the power play. The Lions would pull Kis with over three minutes remaining to attempt a comeback but
Jessica Wakefield (Lucan, Ont.) put the game on ice with an empty netter at 18:36.
Arsenault picked up her first win of the season, registering 26 saves while Kis made 29 saves in the loss for the Lions.

FINAL SAY
"Any time you can get six points out of six is huge with the parity in our league. It was a good weekend for us, not only beating Guelph and York, we had a family, friends and alumni dinner last night so there was a lot of good things happening on the ice but also happening off the ice and I think that all lends to a good, happy feeling as we head into next week." – Head Coach
Matt Holmberg
