KITCHENER, Ont. (October 22, 2017) – The Queen's Gaels finished the OUA Women's Lacrosse Championship on Sunday afternoon at Woodside Park as the silver medalists after falling 9-7 to the Western Mustangs.
The Gaels squared off in the last game of the day, Sunday, facing Western. Western would open the scoring, however, the Gaels fought back with goals from
Amelia Piccone (2) and senior
Sam French to take a 3-1 lead early in the game.
Back and forth play led to the Gaels taking a 4-3 lead into the half. Western opened the half with a six goal run to put the Mustangs up 9-4 with 14 minutes to play in the second half.
The Gaels showed resilience with a three goal scoring run of their own, led by
Annie Lloyd (2) and Piccone with her 3rd of the game. A few missed chances offensively, Queen's could not complete the comeback and lost 9-7.
Despite the loss the Gaels took home a silver medal, capping off a strong season.
Following the tournament, the all-stars for the 2017 season were announced. A complete list of both the first and second team can be found below.
