The Queen's men's volleyball team returns to the court on Saturday, November 4 when they host the Nipissing Lakers at 3pm in the ARC. After finishing the 2016-17 regular season at 15-5, the Gaels went on to the OUA Final Four, but ended up losing 3-2 against Waterloo.
After three decades behind the Queen's bench and an overall record of 354-185,
Brenda Willis is back for her 31
st and final season with the Gaels men's volleyball squad. Willis will look to stretch her last season with the Gaels as long as possible and battle deep into playoffs come spring.

Returning to the Gaels lineup is fifth-year veteran
Markus Trence (Orangeville, Ont.). Named an OUA East All-Star in 2016, Trence was leading hitter for the Gaels with 261 kills last season – 80 more than the next best on the Queen's team. The outside hitter finished third in the conference with an average of 4.08 kills per set.

Joining Trence are returning players
Dylan Hunt (Aurora, Ont.),
Thomas Ellison (Winnipeg), and
Zac Hutcheson (Kingston, Ont.) as senior leaders to the young squad. Jack Peckham (Hamilton, Ont.) also joins the veteran Gaels as a fifth year transfer from the Nipissing Lakers.

Last season, the team took a hit with a graduating turnover of half the previous roster. With nine rookies competing to suit up, the season proved promising for the future of the volley program as the first-year trio of
Joel Rudd (Cambridge, Ont.),
Malcolm Prentice (Oakville, Ont.) and
Lukas Kaufman (Stratford, Ont.) received East All-Rookie status.

Quote from the head coach:
"This year's team is fairly young, but extremely talented. The pre-season has seen the team face squads that are expected to be in the top 6 Nationally, so it has been great learning for us. Now our goal is to get better at something every single day, and to take those improvements into OUA Competition to battle week after week. This year's U SPORTS Championship includes 3 teams from the OUA, and we have set a very realistic goal of being part of that event."
