Gaels football adds three more recruits including two offensive lineman

KINGSTON, Ont. (January 20, 2017) - Queen's football head coach Pat Sheahan is pleased to announce the signing and commitment of offensive lineman James DuManoir (Cobourg, Ont.) and Jonathan Wedgbury (Toronto) along with defensive back/linebacker Daniel Challice (Peterborough, Ont.) to the Gaels football program.

DuManoir comes to the Gaels from St. Mary CSS in Cobourg, Ontario and was a member of the Peterborough Wolverines in the Ontario Football Conference. This past season with the Wolverines the 6-4, 315-pound lineman was named a conference all-star for his play with the Wolverines. At St. Mary, DuManoir played for head coach Jacques Maheux with the Thunder.

"James will add some much-needed size and depth to our offensive line," said Sheahan on 6-4 lineman. "He is very agile for a big guy and plays the game aggressively. He is 17 years old, fluently bilingual and very determined to be a great lineman and is a great acquisition for Queen's!"

Wedgbury is a 6-7, 285-pound offensive lineman who comes to Queen's from Upper Canada College. Wedgbury played under head coach Dave Brown at UCC where the team was the CISAA champions in 2016.

"Jonathan is an impressive two-sport athlete from UCC in Toronto playing both football and basketball," commented Sheahan. "He has great size and moves well for a big man. He will be a great addition to the Queen's offensive line."

An athlete from Adam Scott CI in Peterborough, Challice played on both sides of the ball throughout his high school days. Coached by Daryl Wright, Challice also is a strong lacrosse player and his father played football at McGill when Pat Sheahan was an assistant on the staff.

"Daniel is a very good two-way player who excelled in all aspects of the the game," said Sheahan on Challice who played offence, defence and special teams in high school. "A versatile athlete and a rugged individual, he is another great acquisition for Queen's football."
