Queen's can't weather Toronto's second half at Old Four tournament

TORONTO (August 20, 2016) - The Queen's men's soccer team was in Toronto as the Varsity Blues hosted the annual Old Four exhibition tournament between Queen's, Western, McGill and Toronto. The Gaels continue their exhibition schedule with a 1:30pm game against the Concordia Stingers on Wednesday on Tindall Field.

DAY 2
Queen's faced Toronto in the Consolation Final on Sunday at 12:15pm, falling 5-1 after a strong second half from the Varsity Blues.

In the first half, the Gaels gained the lead after Toronto keeper Harry Kang picked up a yellow card in the 18 yard box to give Queen's a penalty kick. Rohan Sarna (Mississauga, Ont.) converted for the Gaels to put the tricolour up 1-0.

Queen's had their chances, with six shots on target in the match, but the Varsity Blues managed five unanswered goals in the second half to come out victorious.

DAY 1
The Gaels lost 2-1 to the McGill Redmen Saturday night to open their schedule at the Old Four Tournament.

The two teams were in for a battle, with no goals through the opening 40 minutes. Just a minute after Clovis Fowo scored for McGill, Jeffrey Russell (Vancouver) evened the score for Queen's, heading in a freekick from Rohan Sarna (Mississauga, Ont.). The first half ended 1-1, despite the Gaels managing just one shot on goal to McGill's four.

20 minutes into the second half of a rough game, the Redmen went up 2-1 on a rebound goal from Ralph Khayat. McGill was handed three yellow yards in the match, and the teams combined for 21 fouls. At the final whistle, McGill had 11 shots on goal to the Gaels two.
