WATERLOO, Ont. (February 7, 2016)- The Queen's Gaels men's hockey team concluded its weekend road trip on Sunday afternoon at Sun Life Financial Arena, dropping a 4-3 shootout decision to the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks.

The loss snaps the Gaels two-game winning streak, but the men have now picked up at least a point in six of their last seven contests, garnering a 5-1-1 record over that span. Queen's (16-7-2) remain tied for fourth in the OUA East division, but hold a game in-hand over the UOIT Ridgebacks (16-8-2). The Gaels are four points back of the third-place Carleton Ravens (19-7-0).

GAME FLOWRyan Bloom (Calgary, Alta.) continued to remain hot offensively, opening the scoring with his seventh goal of the season and third over the past two games. Bloom's goal, which was also his seventh point over the last three contests, was assisted on by
Eric Ming (Williamstown, Ont.) and
Slater Doggett (Oakville, Ont.). With the helper, Ming also extends his point-streak to three games.

After the hosts evened the match early in the middle period,
Alex Stothart (Ottawa, Ont.) responded with his third of the year giving the men back their one-goal advantage heading into the third period.

Darcy Greenaway's (Wilton, Ont.) seventh goal of the year doubled the guest's lead just 46 seconds into the third, but the Golden Hawks responded a few minutes later to cut the deficit down to a goal. Laurier then tied the game with just under two minutes to go in regulation on Mac Clutsam's fourth goal.

After neither side could find the back of the net through both overtime periods, the Golden Hawks were able to connect on two of three shoot-out attempts, while
Steve Trojanovic (Burlington, Ont.) was the lone scorer for the Gaels.

Patrick McGillis (Calgary, Alta.),
Patrick Downe (New Maryland, N.B.) and
Yannick Laflamme (Thetford Mines, Que.) also picked up assists in a losing cause for the Gaels, who were 0-for-4 on the power-play. The Golden Hawks went 0-for-3 on their man-advantage opportunities.
