Brown scores first as a Gael in Queen's 5-2 Loss to Waterloo

Kingston, Ont. (October 28, 2016) - The Queen's Gaels (4-2-1) hosted the Waterloo Warriors (2-2-2) at the Memorial Centre Friday night, but it was the visitors who came out on top 5-2.

GAME FLOW
The Warriors opened up the game with a short-handed breakaway goal by captain Riley Sonnenburg. The Gaels held strong with multiple saved by their goalie Kevin Bailie (Belleville, Ont.), but Waterloo scored again before the period was out, with Daniel Perigo making it 2-0 at the end of the first.

After being outshot 10-5 in the opening period, Queen's came out stronger in the second. A local product, Graeme Brown (Gananoque, Ont.) halfed the tricolour deficit midway through the middle stanza, scoring his first as a Gael through a screen. Luke Bertolucci (Montrose, B.C.) and Harrison Hendrix (Calgary) earned assists on the Queen's marker. However, Waterloo's Zac Coulter scored within a minute, allowing the Warriors to retake a two goal lead.

Entering the third period down 3-1, the Gaels were determined not to go down without a fight. Firing 14 shots toward Waterloo netminder Mike Morrison, Queen's finally broke through on a bad-angle shot from Eric Ming (Williamstown, Ont.). Dylan Anderson (Greely, Ont.) and Spencer Abraham (Campbellville, Ont.) picked up assists on the goal that made it 3-2 with just under three minutes to play. Unfortunately, in an attempt to tie the game the Gaels pulled their goalie, and as a result the Warriors scored two additional goals making the final score 5-2 for Waterloo.
