Men's soccer beat Laurentian Wednesday, women's soccer hosts Ottawa in the OUA Quarter-Final Sunday, volleyball opens the season at home to Trent, and both hockey teams are at home this weekend. Rowing and cross country are chasing OUA Championships, while women's rugby plays for OUA bronze and men's soccer is at Ryerson for the OUA Quarter-Final.
GAMES OF THE WEEK
WOMEN'S SOCCER PLAYOFFS
The women's soccer team plays their first playoff game on Sunday at 1pm in Richardson Stadium. Because they earned a bye through the first round of the playoffs, the Gaels opponent will be determined Wednesday night.
Â
Last weekend, Queen's picked up a pair of shutout wins to secure the bye over No.9 Ottawa, beating Nipissing 3-0 and Laurentian 2-0. Against Nipissing,
Laura Callender (Ottawa) buried the first two goals of the game in the first half to give the Gaels a comfortable lead. After earning an assist on Queen's second goal,
Tara Bartram (Vancouver) put the game out of reach with an unassisted marker in the final minutes. After scoring the first goal against Nipissing, Bartram is riding a four game goal streak into the playoffs, with six goals in the last four matches.
Jenny Wolever (Toronto), who leads the Gaels in shots this season, scored the second goal against Nipissing. Bartram and Wolever are tied atop Queen's roster with 12 points this year, which is the sixth highest mark in the OUA. Wolever's seven assists are an OUA best, and Bartram's career-high 10 goals put her fourth in the conference. In eight of her starts this season, Queen's keeper
Madison Tyrell (White Rock, B.C.) hasn't allowed a single goal. As a team, the Gaels haven't allowed a goal in over 270 minutes.
Â
Queen's will play the No.9 Ottawa Gee-Gees, after the team from the nation's capital defeated Toronto 3-1 in extra time in the first round of the OUA playoffs. In true Gee-Gee fashion, Emma Lefebvre was quick out of the gate, scoring in the 3rd minute go up 1-0. After Toronto tied the game in the first half, a scoreless second half led to extra time. Morgan McNeil was the hero for Ottawa, scoring in the final minute of the first period of extra time. A Toronto own goal made the final score 3-1. Ottawa started the regular season with nine straight wins before they came to Kingston to play Queen's. The Gaels became the first team to take points from the Gee-Gees with a 1-1 tie. Since then, Ottawa finished the regular season without a win in their final eight games. In conjunction with the Gee-Gees sruggles, their top rate keeper Julie-Anne Lamarche, who boasts an OUA best .930 save percentage, hasn't played since Ottawa visited Queen's.Â

MEN'S SOCCER PLAYOFFS
After beating Laurentian 1-0 at home in the first round of the OUA playoffs, the men's soccer team moves on the OUA Quarter-Final round, which will be played Sunday at 6pm on the road at the No.3 Ryerson Rams.
The Gaels lost both contests to Ryerson during the regular season, but are riding a three-game winning streak into this weekend's game. Ryerson finished the year 14-1-1 and first in the OUA East to earn a bye to Sunday's game. The only games the Rams didn't win this year came during the last two weeks of the regular season, losing 2-1 to Toronto and tying Carleton 2-2 in the regular season finale.
Â
Last weekend, Queen's earned home field advantage with a pair of wins, including an all-important victory against Laurentian, the winner of which would host the first round of the playoffs. The Gaels defeated Nipissing 6-2 in their best offensive effort of the year before shutting out Laurentian 2-0. Against Nipissing, Queen's was down 2-1 at halftime on a goal from
Patrick Van Belleghem (Kenora, Ont.) before an offensive explosion in the second half.
Chris Wellsman (Victoria) scored a pair of goals to kick-start the Gaels comeback, followed by Van Belleghem's second of the game.
Tommy Hong (Oakville, Ont.) scored two goals to round out Queen's scoring in the game. Van Belleghem was back in scoring form when the Gaels faced Laurentian, potting the first goal of the game, which held up as the game winner.
Jacob Schroeter (Ottawa) added his team-leading ninth goal on a penalty kick against Laurentian, which moves him to eighth in the OUA scoring race. As a team, Queen's is tops in the OUA for shots, with 234, and shots on goal, with 150, heading into the playoffs.
Â
WOMEN'S RUGBY PLAYOFFS
The No.7 Queen's women's rugby team is on the road this weekend as they travel to Western looking for an OUA Bronze medal on Saturday at 1pm.
Â
After falling to the Mustangs in the bronze medal games of 2014 and 2015, the Gaels will be looking for a better result this time around. This year, Queen's finished the regular season at 3-2 in the Russell division, which was good for second place. Western did the same the Shiels division, also with a 3-2 record. Both teams suffered their losses to the powerhouses of the league, No.1 McMaster and No.2 Guelph.
Â
In playoff action, Queen's dismantled York 60-7 at home in the Quarter-Final before losing to Guelph for the second time this season, 37-0. After being shut out last weekend, the Gaels top scorers will be itching to get back in the tryzone.
Nadia Popov (Newmarket, Ont.) and
Miranda Seifert (Regina) finished the regular season eighth and ninth in OUA scoring, with 42 and 40 points, respectively. In the playoff win against York, Seifert picked up 15 points on three tries, while Popov had two tries and five conversions for 20 points.
Â
Western finds themselves in the Bronze medal match after steamrolling Brock 76-0 before being shutout in their Semi-Final matchup 29-0 against McMaster. Fourth in OUA scoring during the regular season with 11 tries for 55 points, Page Farries scored a pair in the Mustangs win against Brock. With only four tries during the regular season, Nikki Case had a standout day with six tries for Western in their Quarter-Final win, putting her third in OUA playoff scoring, despite being shutout last weekend.
Ahead of the bronze and gold medal games, the OUA announced that
Queen's has four All-Stars and the Rookie of the Year on their roster.
Jordi Di Nardo (Toronto) is the Russell Division Rookie of the Year, while
McKinley Hunt (King City, Ont.) and
Lauren Murray (Lindsay, Ont.) join Seifert and Popov as Russell Division All-Stars.
Â
ROWING AT OUA CHAMPIONSHIP
The men and women on the Queen's rowing team will be in St. Catherine's, Ont. for the OUA Rowing Championship on Friday and Saturday.
Â
The Gaels will be looking to bring home more hardware this year, after the women finished second and the men fourth in 2015. Queen's picked up six medals all together en route to their team placings, with the women winning three silvers and two bronze, while the men earned one bronze medal.
Â
CROSS COUNTRY AT OUA CHAMPIONSHIP
The men's and No.6 women's cross country teams will be running at the OUA Championship on Sunday in Toronto, with the women's start set for 11am and the men to follow at 12pm.
Â
In their most recent competition, the women earned top spot at the Queen's Invitational, with
Claire Sumner (Calgary) and
Julie-Anne Staehli (Lucknow, Ont.) finishing first and second in the historic 8km race. The identical 8km runs for both women and men is believed to be the first collegiate cross-country meet in North America where both the men and women contested identical race distances.
Â
On the men's side, the Gaels were a close second to Western at the Queen's Invitational, with
Eric Wynands (Lyn, Ont.) earning a second place individual finish as Queen's top runner.
Mark Schmidt (Gads Hill, Ont.) and
Robert Kanko (Toronto) followed close behind in fourth and fifth.
Â
At the 2015 OUA Championship, the women finished second as a team, while the men missed the podium in fourth. The best individual performance came in the form of OUA gold in a standout performance from
Alex Wilkie, who is not competing this season due to injury. On the women's side, Staehli claimed individual silver and Sumner was close behind in fifth.
Â
WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL HOME OPENER
Queen's will open the women's volleyball season at home in the ARC with a single match against the Trent Excalibur on Saturday at 1pm.
Â
Last year, Queen's had their season ended in the first round of the OUA playoffs in a straight sets loss to Ryerson after going 12-7 during the regular season and finishing third in the OUA East. Outside Hitter
Caroline Livingston (Kelowna, B.C.) is the only returning player to have earned All-Star honours last year as a member of the Second Team.
Â
Saturday will be a brand new experience for Trent, who are playing at the OUA level in volleyball for the first time in program history.

MEN'S VOLLEYBALL HOME OPENER
The Gaels men's volleyball team faces off with the Trent Excalibur in the first game of the OUA regular season on Saturday at 3pm.
Â
Queen's finished the 2015-16 regular season with a 15-5 record, which was good for second in the OUA standings and is the best record the Gaels have had in the last five seasons. The tricolour blanked York to get into the OUA Final Four, where they lost to Ryerson in the Semi-Final and missed out on a bronze medal after losing to Waterloo. As veteran head coach
Brenda Willis enters her 30th season at Queen's, she will be working with a Gaels roster that is half first year student-athletes.

The women's hockey team (2-0-2-0) is back at home against the Toronto Varsity Blues (2-0-1-0) on Saturday and their first nationally ranked opponent on Sunday, the No.6 Guelph Gryphons (1-1-1-1). Puck drop for both games is set for 2:30pm at the Memorial Centre.
Â
After picking up their second consecutive shutout in a 2-0 win at Laurier, the Gaels were held off the scoreboard for the first time this season in a 6-0 loss at Waterloo. Gaels goalie
Stephanie Pascal (Sudbury, Ont.) has two shutouts in both tricolour wins this season, including the 31 save win at Laurier.
Addi Halladay (North Augusta, Ont.) and
Emily Jukosky (Stirling, Ont.) scored their first goals of the season to give Queen's the victory.
Â
Toronto lost 2-0 to Ryerson in a weekday game before topping Guelph 1-0 last weekend. Valencia Yordanov recorded the 23 save shutout, while Kristi Riseley scored the game's only goal in the second period with the assist going to Taylor Day.
Â
Guelph suffered their first loss in regulation last weekend to Toronto, after topping Brock 2-1 in double overtime during the week. Karli Shell was the overtime hero with her first goal of the season for Guelph, while Valerie Lamenta made 27 saves in the win. So for this year, Guelph has won both games at home and lost both road games.

MEN'S HOCKEY
The Gaels men's hockey team (3-1-1) has a busy week at home, facing off against the RMC Paladins (1-4-0) Wednesday night, Waterloo Warriors (1-2-2) Friday night, and the Laurier Golden Hawks (3-3-0) Sunday night. All three games have 7:30pm start times at the Memorial Centre.
Â
Queen's won their two games last weekend at Laurentian and Nipissing, and have now taken points away from their last four games.
Eric Ming (Williamstown, Ont.) recorded an assist and an empty net goal in the 3-0 win against Laurentian to bring his season point total to eight. With an assist against Laurentian and a goal in the Gaels 4-2 win against Nipissing,
Slater Doggett (Oakville, Ont.) is tied for ninth in OUA scoring with Ming at eight points.
Kevin Bailie (Belleville, Ont.) earned his first win of the year with a 44 save shutout against Laurentian.
Â
RMC will be looking for just their second win of the season after beating Carleton to open the season. The Paladins lost to UOIT 5-1 during last week before their home game against Concordia was postponed due to issues at their arena. Bruce Hornbrook is the lone player on the RMC roster with two goals at this point in the year.
Â
The last two games for Waterloo ended with disappointment in overtime, suffering a 2-1 OT loss to Brock before falling in 3-2 in overtime to Laurier. Zac Coulter and Michael Siddall both scored their second goals of the season last week, and are the only multi-goal scorers on the Warriors lineup.
Â
Before topping Waterloo in overtime, Laurier suffered a 2-1 loss at Western last weekend. Derek Shoenmakers scored his team-leading fifth goal of the campaign to nudge the Golden Hawks past their Waterloo rivals in overtime, and picked up his first assist of the year in the loss at Western.
