Gaels Defeat Nipissing Lakers 6-2 On The Road

NORTH BAY, Ont. (October 22, 2016) – The Queen's Gaels (6-5-4) had an excellent second half, defeating the Nipissing Lakers (1-11-3) 6-2 in Saturday's road matchup.
 
GAME FLOW
The first half saw even action between both teams. The Nipissing Lakers opened the scoring in the 19th minute, on a shot by Darius Tignanelli. Ryan Roy and Nathan Zak picked up assists on the play. Less than three minutes later, the Gaels responded. Patrick Van Belleghem (Kenora, Ont.) picked up an unassisted goal to tie the game 1-1.
 
Before the end of the half, the Lakers once again gained the lead. Ryan Roy picked up a goal, assisted by William Tsilkas. This gave the Lakers a 2-1 advantage at the end of the half.
 
The second half was all Gaels. 
 
Chris Wellsman (Victoria, BC) picked up two back-to-back goals to give the Gaels a 3-2 lead. Wellsman's first goal was in the 59th minute, with Rohan Sarna (Mississauga, Ont.) picking up the assist. In the 73rd minute, Wellsman scored his second straight goal, with an assist going to Andrew Kim (Mississauga, Ont.).
 
In the 77th minute, Van Bellegham scored his second goal of the game, extending the Gaels lead to 4-2. Tommy Hong (Oakville, Ont.) picked up the assist. Three minutes later, Hong scored a goal of his own for the Gaels, making the game 5-2, and Van Bellegham was credited with the assist. In the 87th minute Hong picked up a second straight goal, allowing the Gaels to take a 6-2 final over the Lakers.
 
Gaels goaltender Alex Jones (Comox, BC) made 8 saves throughout the contest.
