Kingston, Ont. (October 14, 2016) - The Gaels women's basketball team plays host to Acadia, Alberta, and Laval at their annual Queen's Invitational tournament this weekend at the ARC.

Sunday
Queen's 51 Laval 65
In the final game of the Queen's Invitational women's basketball tournament on Sunday afternoon at the ARC, the Laval Rouge-et-Or won the battle of the undefeated squads by notching a 65-51 victory over the host Queen's Gaels.
The Rouge-et-Or finish the weekend with a perfect 3-0 record after victories over Acadia and Alberta, and were led by Raphaelle Cote who tallied 19 points and 11 rebounds, both of which were game-highs. Jane Gagne picked up nine points, three baords and three steals, and Gabrielle Girard added eight points, five boards, and three steals for Laval, who were able to claim 21 points off of 25 turnovers from the Gaels.
Queen's was led by a 10-points performance from
Andrea Priamo (Guelph, Ont.), who shot 8-of-10 from the free-throw line and tallied six rebounds and a steal.
Veronika Lavergne added eight rebounds and six boards, and
Marianne Alarie chipped in five points and eight rebounds for the Gaels, who finish the weekend with a 2-1 record.
The Rouge-et-Or shot 36.6% from the field on Sunday afternoon, compared to 28.0% from Queen's.
Acadia 57 Alberta 73
The Alberta Pandas ended their weekend with a victory at the Queen's Invitational tournament on Sunday morning, topping the Acadia Axewomen by a score of 73-57 at the ARC on the final day of competition
The Pandas finish the weekend with a 1-2 record after dropping a close game to the host Gaels on Saturday evening and falling to Laval on Friday. Elle Hendershot led Alberta with 13 points, shooting 50.0% (6-12) from the field while pulling down an impressive, game-high 15 rebounds for a double-double. Vanessa Wild and Lauren Earl added 11 and 10 points respectively off the bench for the Pandas, who shot 41.7% from the floor and outrebounded Acadia 47-35.
The Axewomen shot 30.0% in their final match of the weekend, and were led by a game-best 14 point-performance by Haley McDonald. Alexandra Barry added 13 points and 13 rebounds for a double-double, and Emily MacLeod and Chanel Smith contributed 11 points each for Acadia.
Saturday
Queen's 66 Alberta 63
The Queen's Gaels maintained their unblemished record at the Invitational on Saturday evening, holding off the Alberta Pandas for a 66-63 victory at the ARC to move to a 2-0 mark on the weekend.
Marianne Alarie (Sudbury, Ont.) picked up a game-high 19 points off the bench for the Gaels, garnering four rebounds and a steal for the women, while
Andrea Priamo (Guelph, Ont.) added 13 points. Queen's shot 35.5% (22-62) on the night, and were able to capitalize on 31 Pandas turnovers, turning those into 25 points.
Alberta worked at a 48.1% (25-52) efficiency rate, but were just 9-of-17 (52.9%) from the free-throw line, compared to 19-of-27 (70.4%) for the Gaels. Brooklyn Legault picked up a team-best 17 points on 9-of-11 shooting, and Elle Hendershot dropped 10 points and 12 rebounds to record the contest's only double-double.
The Gaels will do battle with Laval on Sunday afternoon in a match-up of the two undefeated teams this weekend. Tip-off between the Rouge-et-Or and Queen's is set for 2:00 p.m. Alberta will take on Acadia at 10:00 a.m.
Laval 88 Acadia 72
The Laval Rouge-et-Or earned their second straight victory at the Queen's Invitational on Saturday afternoon, topping the Acadia Axewomen by a score of 88-72 at the ARC.
Jane Gagne shot 8-of-13 from the field, and led the Rouge-et-Or with 18 points on the afternoon. Sarah-Jane Marois picked up 14 points, while Justine G.-Bilodeau and Raphaelle Cote each tallied 10 rebounds to help Laval stay undefeated.
The Rouge-et-Or shot 37.0% (30-81) from the field, and outrebounded their Atlantic Canada counterparts 52-34. The Axewomen shot 37.5% (24-64), and were down by just five points going into halftime. An offensive burst from Laval pushed that spread to 20 by the end of the third quarter.
Chanel Smith tallied a game-high 26 points for Acadia, who will look to end their weekend on winning terms Sunday morning when they close out the Invitational against Alberta at 10:00 a.m. The Rouge-et-Or play their final game against the host Queen's Gaels on Sunday afternoon at 2:00 p.m.
Friday
Alberta 53, Laval 62
In the tournament opener, Sarah-Jane Marois led the Laval Rouge-et-Or to a 62-53 victory over Alberta Pandas on Friday afternoon at the ARC. Marois led all players with 18 points, shooting 7-of-12 from the field while picking up five rebounds in 32 minutes of court time, also a game-high.

Gabrielle Girard dropped 10 points, and Raphael Cote tallied seven points and a game-high nine rebounds in helping Laval pick up their first win at the Tindall. Laval shot 40.0% from the floor and outrebounded the Pandas 34-32.

Elle Hendershot recorded a team-best 15 points in a losing cause for Alberta, who turned the ball over 22 times and were twice held to single digits scoring in the second and third quarter of play. The Pandas shot 44.9% from the field.
Queen's 76, Acadia 69
The Queen's Gaels women's basketball team opened up their Invitational Tournament with a 76-69 victory over Acadia on Friday evening at the ARC.
Bridget Mulholland (Kingston, Ont.) tallied a team-high 15 points, shooting 3-of-7 from the floor and going a perfect 8-of-8 on the free-throw line.
Veronika Lavergne (Kingston, Ont.) tallied 10 points on 5-of-7 shooting, while veterans
Marianne Alarie (Sudbury, Ont.),
Andrea Priamo (Guelph, Ont.),
Abby Dixon (North Vancouver, B.C.), and
Robyn Pearson (Toronto) each recorded eight points in the victory for Queen's, who shot 40.3% as a team and outrebounded Acadia 47-29.
Emily MacLeod recorded a game-high 28 points, going 11-of-20 from the field in a losing cause for the Axewomen. Acadia shot 35.9% (23-64) from the floor, and was 19-of-26 from the foul line, compared to the Gaels who were a perfect 14-of-14.
The Gaels will look for their second win of the weekend on Saturday evening when they host Alberta at 6:00 p.m. Acadia takes on the Rouge-et-Or earlier in the day at 2:00 p.m.
