Frawley gets shutout as Gaels play Rams to 0-0 draw

KINGSTON, Ont. (September 6, 2015) - The Queen's Gaels (0-1-3) women's soccer team took on the Ryerson Rams (1-0-2) at Miklas McCarney field Sunday afternoon where the game ended in a 0-0 draw.

GAME FLOW

The first half of the game saw Ryerson pressuring the Gaels defence, the Rams had several chances off six corner kicks in the first half but could not break through. Both teams battled hard throughout the first half hour of the game but the Gaels offence was limited in the first half managing only a single shot that was on target. Ryerson was making life tough on Queen's as they tried breaking through the defence. Queen's goalkeeper Michaila Frawley (Victoria) saved two of four shots that were fired in the first half.

In the second half of the game both teams were not able to get onto the score sheet. In the 64th minute Ryerson scored a goal that was called back after Katrina Gonyea collided with Queen's goalkeeper Frawley which impeded her from making the save. The Gaels offence started to pressure Ryerson's defence in the last ten minutes of play with a couple shots that were on target but could not beat Ryerson's goalkeeper Alex Armstrong.

Frawley and Armstrong earned clean sheets in the tie with the Gaels keeper stopping three shots on target and the Rams holding off four. Tara Bartram (Vancouver) finished with two shots, one on goal, while the Rams Valeria Muniz Saaved fired three shots with one landing on goal.

FINAL SAY?
"Of the four games we've played that's the worst we've played, but you have to give the other team credit they were very physical and very well organized defensively. Having said that, I don't think we were able to settle things down and identify things they were doing. A similar issue to every game we've played we don't finish enough and we didn't create a lot of chances today." - Dave McDowell, head coach
