KINGSTON, Ont. (September 2, 2015) - The Queen's women's rugby team was back on the pitch welcoming a number of teams to Kingston for exhibition matches.
WednesdayThe Gaels took on Ottawa in a pair of exhibition matches on Wednesday afternoon.
The two teams agreed to play two one hour games, the pitting the teams 1st's against one another with the second match featuring their 2nd's. In the first match of the day the Gee-Gees took down the Gaels 26-0. Irene Patrinos scored a pair of tries and added three conversions to lead all scorers in the match. Ottawa added two other tries to finish with 26 points on the day.Â
In the second game Ottawa once again came out on top but by just by a two point margin 12-10.
Leigha Stiles and Sam Ellis each put down tries for Queen's but the Gee-Gees got a try from Ana McBride plus a try and conversion from Patricia Mandon to seal the win.
ThursdayThe McGill Martletts took on Carleton in an exhibition that saw McGill defeating Carleton 20-17 scoring four tries each from a different athlete.
FridayQueen's finished up with a pair of games on Wednesday taking on a pair of Old Four rivals in Western and McGill.
First up was the Mustangs where Queen's had no trouble dismantling the team that took the OUA bronze medal from them in 2014. The Gaels put up a 73-14 win over their rivals led by
Emma Chown and
Lauren Murray who both finished with three tries each. Kara Gani picked up a try and three conversions while McKinley Hunt added a pair of tries of her own in the win. The Mustangs were led by Andrea Boura who finished with a try and two conversions.
Later in the afternoon Queen's and McGill squared off in exhibition non-conference play between the team's seconds squads. The Gaels found themselves on the losing end of a 41-0 final and were unable to put any points up on the board. McGill saw a three try performance from Deanna Foster in the win for the Martletts.
Up next for Queen's will be their OUA regular season opener on Sunday September 13 when they take on the McMaster Marauders at home on Nixon Field at 1pm.Â
