Gaels defeat RMC 3-1 in annual Lou Jeffries exhibition game

GANANOQUE, Ont. (September 19, 2015) - The Queen's Gaels headed over to Gananoque to take on the RMC Paladins in their annual exhibition matchup, the Lou Jeffries game.

As with any exhibition game, it's a great tune-up for the upcoming season. For Queen's it was a chance for newcomers to put on the jersey and get into game action with their new teammates.

The Lou Jeffries game got off to a great start for the Gaels as they were able to jump in front first. New Gael Slater Doggett (Oakville, Ont.) snapped home the opening tally.

Before the second period was over, it was Blair Wentworth (Calgary) putting Queen's up 2-0 over the Paladins. RMC would add one of their own, but it wasn't enough as the Gaels held off the comeback and took the game by a 3-1 final score. Another newcomer, defenceman Cory Genovese (Hespeler, Ont.), potted the games third goal, an empty netter.

Jacob Brennan (Halifax, N.S.) stopped all 17 shots he faced, while Chris Clarke (Fall River, N.S.) fought off 12 of 13 as the two helped back the Gaels to victory.
Next up, the team will head East to New Brunswick and face St. Thomas in their next exhibition game on Thursday night.

Lou Jeffries was a dedicated, community-driven volunteer for the town of Gananoque, Ontario. He was recognized by his love of hockey and his involvement in the Gananoque Minor Hockey Association (GMHA). Jeffries assisted the GMHA for more than 50 years until his death at the age of 75. He is also known for his contribution in bringing Junior B hockey to Gananoque in 1971. Over his lifetime, Jeffries worked in a number of different roles including Coach, General Manager, President and League Executive for the GMHA and Junior B Gananoque Islanders.

As a proud supporter of Queen's University hockey, Jeffries was always delighted when a player was able to improve upon their life by moving on to an academic institution or sporting team. Realizing that he played a small part in helping an athlete's dreams come true provided him with great satisfaction.
