On Thursday evening at the Government House in downtown Victoria, members of the Canadian rugby community gathered to celebrate the best of Canadian rugby.
Queen's men's rugby student-athlete
Lucas Rumball was named the Rugby Canada men's young player of the year. Rumball had a successful season at Queen's with the Gaels winning the OUA Championship and has continued to shine internationally for Canada with the U20 team. Rumball was captain of the team that defeated the USA in a two match series and Canada will now represent North America when they compete for the Junior World Rugby Trophy later in the year.Â

The third annual Awards Dinner coincided with Rugby Canada's 2014 Fiscal Annual General Meeting that is taking place at the Westin Bear Mountain Hotel in Langford, British Columbia from April 15-17.

CHEK TV's Jeff King emceed the evening while Her Honour Judith Guichon helped present each award. The night was filled with laughter, standing ovations, action packed highlights and photographs.

Halfway through the evening, the Women's Fifteens team that finished second at the 2014 Rugby World Cup each received a framed team photograph commemorating their successful tournament.

To end the formal evening, Rugby Canada Chairman Pat Aldous thanked the crowd in attendance, sponsors and congratulated Rugby Canada's National Team players and coaches on a fantastic year.
