TORONTO (February 20, 2015) – The Gaels (5-13) fell 94-67 to the No. 3 Ryerson Rams (17-2) this Friday night. The Rams currently hold the third place spot heading into the OUA 2014-15 playoffs while Queen's will determine their fate tomorrow night at Toronto.
Rookie
Tanner Graham (Kingston, Ont.) led the Gaels with 16 points and five assists. The Gaels welcomed back guard player
Dan Thompson (Oakville, Ont.) to the court after being out of play due to an injury. Thompson followed up Tanner's performance by adding 12 points of his own. Adika Peter-McNeilly was the leader for Ryerson scoring a game high 31 points while Jahmal Jones picked up 21 points in their win.
The first quarter was a tight match as the teams traded the early lead ending with the Gaels coming out on top, heading into the second quarter ahead 18-16 thanks to a clutch three pointer from
Patrick Street (Etobicoke, Ont.). The Rams didn't let the Gaels lead go unanswered and exploded into the second quarter reclaiming the lead and outscoring the Gaels 27-14 putting them ahead 43-32 at halftime.
The Rams continued to pull away in the third quarter shooting 82 % from the charity stripe and dominating the backboard, grabbing 20 more game rebounds than the Gaels. Outscoring the Gaels 25-14 in the third the Rams headed into the final frame up 68-46. The Gaels improved their offence in the fourth quarter, scoring 21 points and matching the Rams in shooting percentage from the floor. The Rams were able to outscore the Gaels for the third quarter in a row and topped off their OUA season with a 94-67 win.
Tomorrow night the Gaels will play their final regular season game against the Toronto Varsity Blues at 8:00 pm. The winner of this game will claim the 12
th and final spot in the OUA playoffs.
