Gaels This Week – Men's Hockey host No.2 McGill Redmen Saturday night in the Game of the Week.
MEN'S HOCKEYThe men's hockey team (8-3-0) will be hosting the No. 2 McGill Redmen (12-2-0) in the Game of the Week Saturday night at the Memorial Centre with the puck drop set for 7:30pm.
PUCK CANCER is back for the second annual game. This game is in support of The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation and Carley's Angels, in memory of Carley Elle Allison. For more information about PUCK CANCER please click here.
Last weekend the Gaels played two road games against the Western Mustangs and the Guelph Gryphons. Against the Mustangs last Thursday evening the Gaels came away with a 4-3 victory. In a back and fourth game that was tied 3-3 during the middle of the third period Queen's forward
Darcy Greenaway (Wilton, Ont.) broke the tie and netted the soon to be game winner. On the following night the Gaels were unable to defeat the Gryphons losing the game 4-2,
Patrick McGillis (Calgary) and
Spencer Abraham (Campbellville, Ont.) scored the two goals for Queen's.
The McGill Redmen come into this game ranked No.2 in the country as they sit in first place in the East Division of the OUA with a 12-2-0 record. The Redmen are coming off of a 3-2 loss at York last weekend which snapped their nine game win streak. McGill's lineup currently features three of the top five scorers in the OUA with Samuel Lebrecque leading the way with 24 points, followed by David Rose with 21 and Mathieu Pompei with 20.
Queen's will be looking to snap a 29 game losing streak against McGill this weekend. The last time these two teams met each other was during the 2014-15 OUA semifinals where the Redmen swept the Gaels 2-0.
Gaels forward Greenaway is currently tied for first in the OUA with three game winning goals.
WOMEN'S HOCKEYThe women's hockey team (7-1-2-1) will be on the road this weekend as they travel to London Friday night to take on the No.4 Western Mustangs (8-0-3-0) with the puck drop set for 7pm. On Saturday afternoon the Gaels will continue their mini road trip as they travel to Windsor to take on the Lancers (0-1-8-1) with the puck drop set for 4:00pm.
Last weekend the Gaels hosted their same opponents their playing this weekend in the Mustangs and Lancers. On Friday night the Gaels defeated the Lancers 4-1, forwards
Addi Halladay (North Augusta, Ont.) and
Taryn Pilon (Peterborough, Ont.) led the way with two points each. The following night the Mustangs defeated the Gaels 4-1, rookie forward
Katrina Manoukarakis (Scarborough, Ont.) scored the lone goal for the Gaels.
The No. 4 Western Mustangs come into this weekend with an 8-0-3-0 record which places them fourth in the OUA standings. The Mustangs are currently riding a five game winning streak. During the current streak they have outscored their opponents 22-4. The Windsor Lancers come into this game with a 0-1-8-1 record which puts them at the bottom of the OUA standings. The Lancers have been outscored 16-4 during their current three game losing streak.
Queen's rookie forward
Katrina Manoukarakis currently has 13 points in 11 games played which is tied for first overall in the OUA, her four power-play goals also ranks first in the league.
MEN'S VOLLEYBALLThe No.10 men's volleyball team (7-1) will be hosting the No.1 McMaster Marauders (9-0) Friday night and will also be hosting the Waterloo Warriors (6-3) Saturday night with both games being played in the Main Gym of the ARC with both opening sets at 8:00pm.
Last weekend the Gaels hosted the Guelph Gryphons Saturday afternoon. Queen's came away with another straight set win 3-0. Outside hitter
Marko Dakic (Mississauga, Ont.) led the team with 12 kills while setter
Jamie Wright (Kingston, Ont.) finished with 30 assists.
The No.1 McMaster Marauders come into this weekend with a perfect 9-0 record which places them first in the OUA standings. During the Marauders nine game winning streak to open the season they haven't lost a set since the season opener against Waterloo where the game went five sets. McMaster is led by fourth year outside hitter Stephen Maar with 109 kills this season which is tied for fifth best in the OUA.
The Gaels are currently riding a six game win streak. Outside hitter
Marko Dakic currently leads the OUA with 4.36 kills per set and points per set. Dakic is tied for fifth overall in the OUA with 109 kills.
WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALLThe women's volleyball team (4-4) will be hosting the No.9 McMaster Marauders (6-1) Friday night and will also be hosting the Waterloo Warriors (3-5) Saturday evening with both games being played in the Main Gym of the ARC with both opening sets at 6:00pm.
Last weekend the Gaels hosted the Guelph Gryphons Saturday night. Queen's came away with a 3-1 win. Outside hitter
Shannon Neville (Cambridge, Ont.) led the Gaels offensively with 16 kills while also contributing on the defensive side with 20 digs.
Caroline Livingston (Kelowna, B.C.) had her best performance of the season with 13 kills, 11 digs and five service aces.
The No.9 McMaster Marauders come into this matchup with a 6-1 record which places them first in the West Division of the OUA. The Marauders are riding a five game winning streak where they have only dropped one set during the streak. The Waterloo Warriors come into this weekend with a 3-5 record which places them near the bottom of the West Division standings. The Warriors last weekend lost both of their home games against Windsor and Western.
Queen's fourth year outside hitter
Shannon Neville currently ranks second in the OUA with 95 kills recorded. Her 119 digs also ranks third best in the league.
MEN'S BASKETBALLThe men's basketball team (4-1) will be on the road this weekend as they travel to Waterloo Friday night to take on the Laurier Golden Hawks (4-1) with the tip off set for 8pm. On Saturday night the Gaels will stay in Waterloo as they take on the Warriors (0-5) with the tip off set for 8:00pm.
Last weekend the Gaels hosted a couple of nationally ranked teams in the No.7 McMaster Marauders and the No.4 Brock Badgers. Against the Marauders Friday night the Gaels were defeated 84-71,
Tanner Graham (Kingston, Ont.) finished with a team high 21 points. On Saturday the Gaels had an 87-81 upset win over the visiting Brock Badgers, Graham and
Sukhpreet Singh (Toronto) led the way for the Gaels offensively with 17 and 18 points respectively.
The Laurier Golden Hawks come into this weekend with a 4-1 record which places them first in the West Division of the OUA. After dropping their season opener at Windsor the Golden Hawks have won their last four games. The Waterloo Warriors come into this matchup winless on the season with a 0-5 record which places them tied for last in the West Division with Algoma. The Warriors have allowed at least 90 points against in all of their five defeats on the season.
Gaels second year guard/forward
Tanner Graham was named the OUA Male Athlete of the Week for his performances against the two nationally ranked teams last weekend as he averaged 19 PPG and 6.5 RPG.

It was a team win as four of the five starters reached double digits. Against the Badgers Saturday the Gaels had their four game win streak snapped by a 69-50 lost. The Gaels starters played well once again but could not get any contribution from their bench who shot 1-12 from the field.
The Laurier Golden Hawks come into this weekend with a 3-2 record which places them second in the West Division of the OUA. After dropping their first two games of the season the Golden Hawks have won their last three games. The Waterloo Warriors come into this matchup winless on the season with a 0-5 record which places them tied for last in the West Division with Algoma. The Warriors have been outscored by an average of 24.8 points per game in their five losses.
