OSHAWA, Ont. (November 14, 2015) - Queen's (6-1-1-1) hit the road for their only game this week to take on the Ridgebacks (2-6-1-0) in Oshawa coming away with a 5-1 win.
The Gaels have been off since Novemebr 1st, when they took a loss in a road game versus the Guelph Gryphons, snapping a four game win streak.
Game FlowLooking to get off to a quicker start than they did in Guelph two weeks ago, the Gaels wasted no time potting the games opening goal.
Michele Knecht (North York, Ont.) put away her first of the season to give the away team a 1-0 lead. Just over three minutes later the Gaels struck again as
Katrina Manoukarakis (Scarborough, Ont.) scored her fourth of the year, giving the team an insurance marker just 5:56 into the game.
It took a little longer for Queen's to find the back of the net in the second period, but they scored their third of the game 11:23 in, with a team-leading fifth goal by
Nadia Larocca (Mississauga, Ont.). Goaltender
Caitlyn Lahonen (Saskatoon, Sask.) turned away 13 shots going into the final frame, keeping the game at 3-0.
Just under six minutes into the third Manoukarakis potted her second of the game, and tied Larocca for the team lead in goals, with her fifth of the year on the powerplay. The Ridgebacks were on their heels for most of the game, but were able to solve Lahonen and the Gaels defence late in the third with a goal by Gabriella Lamanna. Before it was all over,
Kyla Crouse (Mount Brydges, Ont.) scored to give Queen's a four goal lead.
The Gaels took the game 5-1, to improve to 6-1-1-1 on the season moving into a tie for first in the OUA.
