KINGSTON, Ont. - (November 20, 2015) - Queen's
(7-1-1-1) scored three goals in the third period to took a home win versus
the Windsor Lancers (0-1-8-1) by a 4-1 score.The Gaels hosted the Lancers for their first home game since October 24th, and sat first in the OUA coming into Friday's game.
Game FlowThe Gaels started with the majority of the pressure in the opening frame, with a few solid chances but Ingrid Sandven stood tall for the Lancers. The Gaels'
Caitlyn Lahonen (Saskatoon, Sask.) wasn't tested too much, but in the final minute she came up with a big save to keep the game at bay. The first period would end scoreless.
The game's pace really picked up in the opening minute of the second period. The Gaels took advantage as
Clare McKellar (London, Ont.) scored her first goal of the year to give the home team that critical first goal and a 1-0 lead. Each team continued to have chanes as the game opened up alot more in the middle frame. Big saves by both Lahonen and Sandven kept the game tight at 1-0 heading into the final period.
In the opening minutes of the third period, the Gaels added took a 2-0 lead with
Taryn Pilon (Peterborough, Ont.) scoring the goal with assists going to
Addi Halladay (North Augusta, Ont.) and Katrina Maoukarakis (Scarborough, Ont.). Windsor was able to capitalize on some sustained pressure half-way through the third frame as Larissa Borowiec cut the Gaels lead in half 2-1. Just one minute later Halladay striked back, taking a nice feed from Pilon and scoring her third of the season and second point on the night. The Gaels were not done there, as another minute later it was
Nadia Larocca (Mississauga, Ont.) scoring her sixth goal of the year off a nice pass from
Kaylie Dennis (London, Ont.).
That was all the home team needed as the Gaels won 4-1 over the visiting Lancers to remain atop the OUA standings.
