Gaels Continue to Climb With Road Win

WATERLOO (October 31, 2015) - After a tight but successful 2-win weekend at home last week, the Women's Hockey Team hit the road for a back-to-back road weekend starting with a game versus Waterloo on Halloween afternoon.

Game Flow
The Gaels come into the game with a 5-0-1 record, three of those shutouts by Caitlyn Lahonen (Sharon, Ont.) who's been on fire early on in the season. The Warriors sport a 3-2-2 record coming into the Saturday afternoon action.

The first period opened up about half way through as the Warriors jumped out in front 9:27 into the game with a goal by Rebecca Rutherford, her second of the year. Each team sent a player to the penalty box before the end of the first, neither able to convert.

Down by one coming into the second, the Gaels were able to jump on their opportunities to tie things up five minutes in. Megan Farrell (Barrie, Ont.) buried her second of the season, already doubling her goal total from last year. After killing off a penalty mid-way through the period, the Gaels looked to turn up the offense once again. Addi Halladay (North Augusta, Ont.) answered the call as she also potted her second goal of the young season, putting the visiting Queen's squad up by one.

After giving up double-digit shot totals in the first two periods, the Gaels looked to play defense and protect their slim lead and jump on any chances for an insurance marker. The team came into the game allowing the lowest goals against total in the OUA (tied with Laurier). Using the early season experience, Queen's held Waterloo to only five shots and shut the door pulling away with a 2-1 win.

By the Numbers
27 - saves by Caitlyn Lahonen in the win
30 - shots on net by Queen's
13 - points on the season for the Gaels after Saturday's win
7 - points by Katrina Manoukarakis (Scarborough, Ont.) on the year (leads the team) after an assist on Halladay's goal

Up Next
The Gaels will now head East to Guelph to take on the No.6 ranked Gryphons for another matinee game.
